Re: That Crossover Moment.....

I had a school friend who was a massive fan. He made me a mix tape of PSB, some time in 1989. Looking back, it was a slightly weird mix of songs; I remember that it had The Sound of the Atom Splitting on it, Don Juan, and Shopping, but not Rent, Suburbia, What have I done to deserve this? or Domino ...

Your choices: the debut album that might have been ...

Hi all, Hope everyone is well. I saw a Twitter thread the other day about 'the greatest debut albums of all time', and, as with all such threads, my first instinct was to say 'Pet Shop Boys, Please'. And then I got to thinking. Please is a great album, but it could have been a truly stupendous debut...

Re: Hotspot ratings

I've upgraded from 5 to 6, but I can't go any further. I find Hotspot to be the worst of the Price Trilogy. The production is a mess and it just doesn't sound good. The ballads are the best songs. "Wedding in Berlin" is a really bad way to finish the album; the magnicifent "Burning the heather" sho...

Re: POLL: What album is Hotspot most similar to?

Yes, I think it's most similar to Nightlife, but Hotspot is a better, more consistent album.

Re: DREAMWORLD TOUR

Now that we've heard Hotspot, I think it's a real shame that more of the tracks won't be getting an outing live, particularly Will-o-the-wisp, Happy People (mashed with Inside a Dream), and Hoping for a miracle.

Re: Hotspot ratings

I gave Hotspot an 8. It has the effortless class of the earliest albums, and lacks that sense of 'try-hardiness' that has affected the consistency of some of their later work. Melodically, it's amazing, Neil's vocals sound wonderful (Dreamland notwithstanding), and Chris is on sublime form with many...

Well, if Happy People doesn't sound like New Order then I don't know what does..
I think Happy People sounds like it belongs on Very. If it sounds a bit New Order-ish, it's because it sounds like New Order sounding like PSB on Republic, also in 1993.

Re: The most New Order-esque PSB tracks?

I don’t actually think there are that many, which is slightly weird given the overlap in the fanbases. I think there are more New Order songs that sound PSB than vice versa, especially on Republic. The Stephen Hague connection I suppose. I was reading Peter Hook's book a few months ago and was amus...

Re: Hotspot - Forum Reactions.

I see on the offical site no less the lyrics for Wilo the wisp still has that unknown lyric..... "I think, my,*** you may have changed" I personally think he said "my love" you may have changed, but I think neil accidentally just put a kinda weird twist on the word when he sung it. cause I just can...

Re: Show your love for “Hoping for a Miracle”

Hoping for a miracle could slot into any one of the previous 13 albums and improve it. Things I love: - the wonderful keyboard riff, not just the notes, but the instrumentation / sounds - the effortless transitions from section to section, as if the song has always existed - how could it not have pr...

Re: Stuart Price Trilogy Top/Worse 5 (2013-2020)

Sticking only to album tracks:

Best (no particular order)

Hoping for a miracle
The Dictator Decides
Fluorescent
Will-o-the-wisp
Into thin air

Individually worst, although some of them work in the context of the albums:

Happiness
Wedding in Berlin
Shouting in the evening
Pazzo!
Dreamland

Re: Forthcoming PSB TV and radio appearances...

The National TV awards are being hosted by David Walliams, so wonder if that had an influence on the Pets getting the gig?

Prepare for an ‘oh so funny’ sexual / sexuality allusion in Walliams’ link into the PSB performance too.
