Re: funko Pops

I read an interesting article (from 2016) but it actually makes some valid points about why the Funko figures are a bit of a waste of time, money and space. https://houseofgeekery.com/2016/05/31/why-ill-never-buy-a-funko-pop-vinyl-figure-by-a-compulsive-collector/ You can tell that article was writ...

Re: The New Album Info Thread

Agreed! Wedding In Berlin spoils Hotspot. It should have been left as a wedding present to a friend. An Open Mind or one of the unused tracks should have been included instead. An Open Mind is one of the best things they've done in years but it doesn't fit the sound of Hotspot at all. It would soun...

Welll mot "most"..ALL the new supposed "HD" versions uploaded on youtube are a joke.
I said "most" because I was speculating - they're so disappointing I didn't bother to watch them "all". :)

Re: Video Remasters

Say what Go West was filmed on can be seen in this documentary starting from 0:33. At 0:52 Howard Greenhalgh even talks about it. Yes - hence my comment in the post you quoted: It's the middle stuff that's problematic - stuff like Can You Forgive Her, which is shot on film but involves a ton CG wor...

Re: Video Remasters

Maybe thy could please list which PSB videos were shot on what? Opportunities on film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di60NYGu03Y Opportunities on video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyeWRd7ZEBs For the vintage stuff, it's virtually all on film. The negative or interpositive can be scanned in H...

Re: Video Remasters

It's true that filmed videos (which I think are all until you get into the 2000's) could be rescanned and the video effects (if any) could be recreated/recomposed to make HD versions of many of them. Yep. And most of the '80s ones don't even feature video effects at all. I would prefer that the mon...

Re: Video Remasters

The fact that they were shot on film doesn´t mean at all that the final video edition was made on film. I think you'll find I already addressed this. On the PSB videos, MOST of them. you can see MANY "video" filters and effects applied to the image. That´s a very big signal that they were edited an...

Re: Video Remasters

Of course they´re just up-scaled videos since "negatives" of a native video flimed/edited piece never existed. ...which is why every HD release requires a ground-up rebuild using the dailies negatives and the original EDL. It's not rocket science. Many of the older videos were shot on film, which m...

Re: Video Remasters

Gotta be honest, these aging eyes dont see enough of a difference to really care. The human eye and ear can probably only see and hear up to a certain level of clarity before this sort of stuff becomes a waste of time and a gimmick to shift the same copy of a song or movie for the umpteenth time. T...

Please don’t tar fans as not appreciating craft / different (or as another member put it ‘unadventurous morons’, which says more about the original poster really).
It says what I think about the tedious fans who can't understand that the imperial phase ended 35 years ago, anyway.

All their career talking against guitars and pop rock and now they feel more confortable with it. Guitars are part of the past. Synths have been a part of pop music longer than guitars were when synths first became popular! You're on dodgy ground pretending they're somehow not part of the past too.

Re: What would you think a future PSB's album should sound like in order to reinvent themselves?

Elysium, looking back on it....the lyrics are a passable set of Tennant lyrics. but I think the real problem is there is alot of uninspired music. Memory of the future, hold on,everything means something, your early stuff, winner, ego music. while I know some will say they LOVE some of them, I think mo...

But I'm not talking about the lyrics, I'm talking about music. Songs like Leaving and Invisible are not particulary good on musical terms.
If Leaving had been on Behaviour you'd be calling it a masterpiece.

Re: What would you think a future PSB's album should sound like in order to reinvent themselves?

In a way I’m in that camp, as I believe the quality, scope, song writing and production have deteriorated since then. Not a surprise I hasten to add. I often wonder why ? I think this is actually several intersecting. things. The best period for pop music is always when you were young. There's no g...
