Re: Neil Tennant in conversation, Saturday 5 October 2019, RNCM Theatre

Chris has a lot to answer for.

Once you subtract the fact that he is an impish pop genius - and the foremost artistic expression of still life in the modern world - from the equation, the rap sheet is damning.

Re: Neil Tennant in conversation, Saturday 5 October 2019, RNCM Theatre

I think the third album was way better than the first, full as it was of needless filler like "Soviet." Vivid, Twisted Tenderness, and Prodigal Son were marvellous. Unpopular opinion, I know, but then again this is a thread where we have people preferring an Electronic album to a PSB one, so you kno...

Re: The New Album Info Thread

Behaviour, like Being Boring, is definitely overrated these days. I'd argue it's their best album, but it was ignored by many fans back in the day. I was 18 when it came out, which made me a sitting duck for its poignant coming of age tales and melancholic ruminations on youth. Being Boring is simil...

Re: Neil Tennant in conversation, Saturday 5 October 2019, RNCM Theatre

If the possibility of another Electronic album is "bigger news than anything to do with the forthcoming album", Neil and Chris should shut the pet shop once and for all.

Honestly, they get taken for granted these days.

Re: The New Album Info Thread

Thanks to the intrepid Dog for his tidbits of information in the Neil in Conversation thread. The key nugget appears to be that the lead single is to the new album what So Hard was to Behaviour, i.e., rather more uptempo (or at least rather different in style). That suggests we are going downtempo f...

Re: The lost single

Integral - not that it would have made much difference to their commercial fortunes. However, as lead single from Fundamental it would have been top 10 in all likelihood, and a more memorable choice than the underrated I’m with Stupid. This must be the place is one I’ve long thought should have been...

Re: Dreamland / No Boundaries CD single - October

Ah, the inevitable CD single. That’ll give us something to shuffle contentedly to in our Zimmer frames. You’ve got to hand it to Pet Shop Boys. They do know their audience. Drico. Oh you cynic! :D I'm a user of both digital and physical formats, and I think there's a lot of pleasure lost in the enj...

Re: DREAMWORLD TOUR

Don't think there will be a new compilation, who would buy such a release? It would basically mean a PSB greatest hits playlist, as all their songs are already on Spotify. The days of greatest hits albums are over. Also a bit weird to release such a greatest hits album coinciding with their new alb...

Re: DREAMWORLD TOUR

Given that their tours are effectively greatest hits shows by default, I can’t see them going to the trouble of explicitly marketing the next tour as a greatest hits show without some form of compilation cash-in released to accompany it. It might even give them a fig leaf with which to hide their cy...

The Rolling Stones haven’t had a top ten UK single for 35 years, you dont see them peddling new tracks when on tour. ....
The Stones are dinosaurs from the Jurassic period. By comparison, Pet Shop Boys are merely Cretaceous.

Re: DREAMWORLD TOUR

I wouldn't be surprised if Price reworked many of their singles for a new compilation album. I've been thinking about how a new greatest hits record could work. The options aren't great. A single disc hits album is pointless as Ultimate has covered that (badly, in my view). A double disc (say, 36 tr...

Re: DREAMWORLD TOUR

I suspect anything that was released as a single is eligible for this set list. At the very least, they'll probably include Love etc (which was a hit) and Dreamland (which won't be, but is apparently lending its name to the tour). Regardless, considering Pet Shop Boys have more or less underused man...
