Sad news - Iain Bell

#1 Post by Ramzy »

Hey everyone,

This is a horrible message to have to post.

Iain Bell, who many of you will know better as long-time forum contributor DJ Fairborne, died yesterday of cancer. He was 39 - today would have been his 40th birthday.

I made friends with Iain through what was then the Aimoo forum in about 2002 or 2003. He was a huge fan who used to make compilations of unreleased and rare songs for fellow fans, of whom I was one - as a teenager with no money for rare promos and before YouTube or torrenting (sorry mods) these were extremely gratefully received, and I always enjoyed the custom artwork he would put so much time into. Over time he did the same with New Order, another band he adored, and he also shared magazine cuttings and photocopies of books long out of print. I sent him a handful of bits and bobs in return but nothing like as much as he shared with me.

He had been through a very tough time with ill health and the death of his gran, mum and sister, but when I spoke to him - which wasn't as frequent as it should have been - he always seemed philosophical, and he always had time for a smile at his own expense.

From the little I knew of him, he was a lovely, generous man who shared the same passion as all of us. I'm told he died surrounded by friends with his favourite music playing - New Order's best of.

We've lost another good one.

Really sorry to hear this news Ramzy. Tragic at that age as well. He's been around the forums forever and always contributed.

I only knew of him through his posts and contributions to this site and not personally. However, this is truly horrible news regarding someone so young with seemingly a real zest for life. I can only offer my sincere condolences to his family. One day cancer will be eradicated. RIP, Lad.

How incredibly sad, and at just 39. My thoughts go out to his friends and family. He seemed a nice guy and I'm sure he was.

He put me onto the Soundography podcasts earlier this year. Incredibly sad news. RIP...
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning. :|
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

Really sad to read about this and at such a young age too.

My condolences to his family & friends.

Sorry to hear this. Although you are all just names on a screen it's upsetting to know there's one less of us. Too young.
