Happy people
Happy people
What a track! We need this released as fourth single, with extended version and good 12" remixes. Period.
"I think it’s an amazingly good album, I’ve got to be honest with you. It’s one of the albums I feel most proud of. But for people who don’t really know us, and have a sort of an idea about us, ‘Electric’ is more what the Pet Shop Boys are meant to be."
(Neil Tennant, speaking about "Elysium" on the eve of "Electric" release.)

Re: Happy people
I like that hint of Music for Boys re the sped-up "ah-oo" voice in Happy People.
Re: Happy people
Extended mixes would be right at home with Hotspot's retro feel. PSB haven't done a lot of extended mixes since Behaviour which is a shame.
Re: Happy people
Absolutely!
This song is perfect for extended remix! That middle 8 is the single most thrilling part of Hotspot. Pure magic! It would be a shame it is not milked more in the extended mix.
Re: Happy people
Despite being uptempo and having a “euphoric” sound, there is a real sadness to the song. It’s also right out of the early 90s; heck, it could’ve been on Very! It sort of longs to go back in time, to a more innocent time when we were young. That comes through the song.

It sounds a lot like I’ve Got Your Music by Saint Etienne.
I sincerely *love* Disco 2 and listen to it straight through regularly.

Re: Happy people
its my fav track off the album. When the bass line starts at the beginning it makes me think I am in a movie theater in the 80's and the opening credits to a 80's comedy movie is starting.

Re: Happy people
I can imagine Happy People being played during the Goal of the Month segment on Match of the Day..

Re: Happy people
I was thinking the same. This and dj culture And sometimes many other songs (just one kiss from basement jaxx, and Lies).

I didn't like it at first listen and I still don't. It sounds quite old and I also don't like the "rap" part.
I am surprised that most of you love it, it makes me think I might be wrong.

Re: Happy people
Is this an appreciation thread? Otherwise I'd like to express my point of view. Here I go: there only two tracks that I don't like on this album, You Are the One and Happy People.
You are the One is absolutely not my cup of tea.
Happy People has some good elements: house piano, bouncing bassline, nice lyrics... but I don't really like Neil rapping, I prefer him talking, it reminds me of Metamorphosis, and I don't like the chorus melody, it reminds me of Groovy. Both Metamorphosis and Groovy are songs I find deadly boring.
