Your ideal PSB album Running time

#1 Post by weirdalfan1980 »

I like my albums with good timing, I prefer the album around 50 - 55 minutes in length. Get what I pay for without overdoing it. I find long albums get boring (except for RTP-electronic)

Please was 42
Actually 48 ( i think)
Intropsective 48
Behaviour - Cant remember 52???
Very around 52 with hidden track
Bilingual over 50
Nightlife 53
Release 45
Fundamental 49

I have to check it out again to comfirm.
Yo, Mr. Dopeman, you think your slick;
Ya sold crack to my sister, and now she's sick.
But if she happens to die, because of your drug;
Im puttin' in your culo, a .38 slug!

Okay. You've already undermined your argument by picking the dullest record any member of New Order, The Smiths or Kraftwerk have ever been involved with (and I even own a copy of 'Waiting For The Sirens Call'). Why should I trust anything else you say, ever?

Personally, I'm with Neil: It's how long an album seems that is important and by using music to distort our percetion of time we find that, say, the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs (which is probably about 38 mins) seems to be about 5 minutes long, whilst (to pick a name out of the hat...) Coldplays last turgid effort appeared to cause a rip in the space time continuum and destroyed all existence, such was it's flatulance.

Not that I'm one to criticise.

In terms of PSB albums, they tend to be quite close in length. Until that is you take perceived time into account... I may consider playing Bilingual over and over so that, Like Yossarian's mate (who's name eludes me) in Catch 22, the tedium makes my life appear to be going much slower the nearer I get to death.

Did someone say that Neil reads this forum?

Groovy.

for me sometimes I am taken aback when I see people say they would like shorter CD's. or that a CD would have been better if they left off such and such a song.
that seems like the kind of mindset the people in suits and ties think of in a boardroom. me as a fan, I like long CD's with lots of songs.

its all subjective anyways, one persons crappy song is anothers dream.I dont like footsteps,but I would never say to neil and chris it would be better to leave it off.

80 minutes... as long as possible, provided that the material is good. I think the main reason we all get hung up on the 40-50 minute album lengths is because this was pretty much the norm for vinyl.

About an hour would be fine.
So, I picked 55-60 minutes ...

The 'usual stuff' can be much
longer than one hour but ima-
gine 'Release' for more than 1
hour or ... forever!

Aaaaaarrghhh ... !!! :shock:

Maybe this would be a problem for you. And though I don't like Release best it is quite a good album I think. So probably we know now that you don't like this one you shouldn't say it that often :lol:

35-40 minutes good music is more than enough.

I don't like albums to be too long, simply because 90 percent of the time the quality of the songs doesn't justify it. I'd rather have an album with 10 good songs than an album with 10 good and 5 bad songs, because it's just not as fun to listen to. I also admit that if I have to listen to the same style of music too long I get bored (which is why I listen to a lot of different genres).
