Jam and Spoon DJ dies at age 39
DJ and producer Mark Spoon, half of dance music duo Jam and Spoon, has died aged 39. The influential German DJ was found dead in his Berlin apartment after a suspected heart attack. He formed Jam and Spoon with Jam El Mar, having a 1995 hit with Right in the Night (Fall in Love With Music).
They remixed songs by artists including Pet Shop Boys and Moby. As a promoter Spoon, real name Markus Loffel, discovered Europop star Dr Alban.
Spoon began his career as a record label manager and nightclub owner, helping to discover new talent in Frankfurt. Jam and Spoon's debut album Tripomatic Fairytales became a transatlantic hit in 1993.
From 1995 the pair recorded under the name Tokyo Ghetto Pussy, creating dancefloor hits I Kiss Your Lips, Everybody On The Floor (Pump It) and You Make Me Feel.
Spoon died on Wednesday, record company Universal Music confirmed.

German Trance Pioneer Dies Suddenly
Marc Spoon was found dead in his Berlin apartment this week, after reportedly suffering a heart
attack. MTV Germany said police broke into his flat after friends tried and failed to contact him.
He was 39 years old.
The legendary German DJ, whose real name was Markus Loeffel, achieved massive commercial and
critical success in the early 90s, remixing acts including Quincy Jones, the Pet Shop Boys and Dr Alban
before producing the definitive remix of Age Of Love that became one of the first trance superhits
of the era. He also became a bona fide pop star in 1993 when he teamed up with classical musician
Jam el Mar to form Jam & Spoon, scoring massive worldwide hits with Right In The Night and Find
Me, featuring the vocals of former Shamen singer Plavka.
Simultaneously, he developed a parallel career as a techno/ trance DJ, regularly spinning at
London's seminal Final Frontier at Club UK and becoming one of dance culture's first genuine superstar
DJs.
Always a larger than life character, both physically and via his well known penchant for hard
living, he was famously jailed for several days in Ibiza in the early 90s after being caught necking a
couple of ecstasy pills as he DJed at Space. He also received a 3 day jail sentence in Germany in
2002, after being convicted of football hooliganism for fighting in a stadium 12 years previously.
Corvin Dalek's manager Mark Reeder who knew Marc well throughout his career told Skrufff he was
'shocked but not really surprised about his untimely death', adding 'I was in negotiations to get
him a gig in China and spoke to him just before Christmas.'
"Mark was a colourful character in the club scene and a legend in his own lifetime. We will miss
him, thankfully, he's left us a legacy of truly classic tunes which will remain with us forever,"
said Mark.
Gigolo Records chief DJ Hell also paid tribute, telling Skrufff 'we've all lost a great character
and a friend.'
"Everybody is shocked about this sad news," Hell added, "he will live forever in our minds."
I hadn't realised Mark Spoon was responsible for Age Of Love. What a fabulous track that is. The Pets played it constantly when they stood in for Simon Bates on Radio One, back in the day.

Very sad news...I read it randomly as I visit the official PSB-Page.
I like his PSB-Mixes and his other projects, even his last Album "Tripomatic Fairytales 3003" which was released 3 years ago. And don't forget the other worldwide songs like Ride in the night, Angel and the last songs "Be Angeled, Set me free and Butterfly sign".
Germany loose another great Dance legend and it remembers to the tracigally death of "Torsten Fenslau" the Producer of "Culture Beat" after a car accident in 1993.
Rest in Peace...

The trance scene is very heavy and rough...believe me, I also often was in clubs for DJ Gigs in the last years...
And I heard from some of his friends which know him personally that he also drunks too many "Jägermeister" (35% Vol. Alcohol Liquer) during his DJ Events and partys at one evening. Together with smoking and fat food that could be a reason for his possible death I think as well as to long DJ Sessions without sleep or consuming "Ecstasy", well known in the scene although it's an illegal drug here. The condolence book shows some of this statements from many friends which saw him at the last events.
