I've already discussed this question on my forum. Some italians fans want this new compilations of b-sides and I am between them. But speaking seriously, it's hard to believe in another Alternative even if the FL series is stopped to Bilingual and there are all the b-sides from 1999 to the present (an dwhat b-sides they are
). Probably PSB want to re-edit Nightlife and Release with a second disc with b-sides and not release another compilation. It's true too that the new Alternative could not arrived so high in the chart like the first that come out after a incredible album like Very. For me it's more possible another Disco after a new studio album by the Boys.

What's the market ?
The general public ?
Fundamental got some attention here. A2 would not (yet).
The Boys must concentrate on making the
next album, just as good. No distractions.
Fundy+1 has the potential to put the boys right back on top of the world.
If Fundy+1 is just as good, an A2 may be viable then.
If not, there is no point.
The fans ?
I have and will buy every single.
I have and probably will buy each FL set.
I think an A2 would be superflous to me.
The only need would be to get Blue on Blue on the more easy to access CD format.

I'm not going to buy the Further Listening sets (except for Bilingual which I already have);
I don't think an "Alternative 2" would be superfluous, and I would buy such an album were it available!
I don't use Torrent, but hearing this it's tempting to start doing so...Some bloke has uploaded a torrent called Beside 2007 (not bad eh? .. B-side.. Beside )
a 2CD set of 17 songs each.. all b-sides after alterative..

I quite agree with you about the general public. At this point, I think, it's wiser for PSB to concentrate on new good music. If they release a compilation like Alternative 2, then somehow it emphasizes their past work. I always feel that way - when an artist puts out compilations all the time, isn't it like summarizing the career that has been until now, instead of what is being released right now and what is "on top" by that artist. I don't want PSB to be known as a "past" act, as they are not, although I'd love such a compilation myself.gregf wrote:What's the market ?

The Further listenings are really great, they almost feel like a homage to the album made. Every artist should have packages like that!

I find I never listen to the FL's between Please and Behaviour, because all the best material is on Alternative. Very's is the best one anyways and features a lot of good material not found on Alternative, and Bilingual's is the only place I can listen to that era's b-sides. So what I'm trying to say is Alternative is better than FL, at least to me, because it's great to hear 15 rare(for me, a non-single non-downloading kind of guy) songs in 2 stretches instead of having to pop in 5 discs with a mixed bag of remixes in between. If I want to hear PSB b-sides, I'd like a full collection.
That said, I don't expect an Alternative 2, what with the dirth of material they've released and still have yet to release, and the fact that FL didn't exist until after the first Alternative came out. I'm just saying it would be nice... And don't get me wrong, I like FL, it's nice to have rarities from every album fit nicely into my cd collection, plus the book and re-mastering is great. It's such a lovely way to tidy up the past.
