I think that they want release A2 in US 'cos they launched only few singles in UK since Bilingual while in Europe we have had 3 or 4 singles for every album. So with a compilation they could make available all the often fabulous b-sides even to the US public.

Well, it may be another earnest reason, because Pet Shop Boys already have more than 140 minutes of b-sides, and they need to set aside some of them to fit 2CD limitation (or even 1CD, as you means - but they could release all of them as 2CD limited edition compilation in UK/Europe...).
Also, I hope that with this great "b-side concert" idea and forthcoming Heaven gig Pet Shop Boys don't forget about promise they gave us to perform a concert in Russia in spring'08.

Pleased to see loads of my favourites there, particularly - Up against it and Why don't we live together. I'm not sure how seriously they are suggesting this idea, but tis good to see they still have a good idea of what it is their fans would like to hear.

Just need a compiled DVD of live shows we haven't seen - Mermaid, Barfly, etc, etc.

Oh no, what am I going on about, that's one of 'the most stupid things I've heard in many years." My apologies, next I'll be suggesting that they make a new cd, which of course is "the kind of things old bands do in their careers when they don't have anything better and new for their fans." !!!!

thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't aware that Erasure were the first band to perform in concert and then release an album of the event

Did the Re-issues come out in USA? A UK Alternative 2 would really be pointless due to the re-issues.

I dont think they said that the EMI contract said NO.. just that they dont NEED to. So they might just go ahead and release Alternative 2.

Wheres the FL series would be a remastered one with different mixes

BTW I read something Neil said about PSB Forum b*tching about them. I hope its not this one!! coz i know some that are very b i t c h y!

But would they call it 'Alternative 2' or 'Besides'? I prefer 'Alternative 2'.

I think this would make a fantastic compilation. Some of these tracks have only been available on DVD single formats, not on CD - and won't appear on 'Further Listening' bonus discs for some time yet. Ending with 'Bright Young Things' would be a great finale, and I'd love to read the sleevenotes that would accompany this release. So many great tracks on these two CDs, I feel! A "B-sides concert" residency at a Savoy-style venue for four or five nights would be a great way to promote the compilation, picking tracks from both Alternative collections.

The only B-sides missing are:
