Lennon at the top spot is alright, although he should have shared it with McCartney. They both wrote their best stuff when they were in The Beatles.

Ray Davies of the Kinks should be at least number two (after Lennon-McCartney)!
That man is a lyric genius.

Stock Aitken Waterman made great pop records but were too often derivitive of ABBA, Motown and old high NRG records. They also copied riffs and hooks from their previous successes, which was why there was a 'sameness' in their tunes.
