The Republicans have never been in control of the media. Most of the US media are currently 100% in the tank for Obama.BlueSwan wrote:But the way that the Republicans have generally been able to control the media, I think that Palin was a good choice.
It's not "Creationism". And there's nothing contradictory with being pro-gun and being pro-life. Yes, she is a beautiful person. Much more so than the loose cannon that Obama chose to give his ticket some supposed foreign policy experience.Your Funny Uncle wrote:Have you seen McCain's lovely running mate?. "Pro-life", member of the NRA, advocates the teaching of "creationism" alongside evolution, doesn't think global warming is man made. What a beautiful person...

Along with all that she wants oil drilling in the remaining Arctic wilderness "to solve the
energy problems". Fox news says "she knows more about energy issues than the entire
Democratic party".
I think picking this candidate could back fire badly for the Republicans. They think,
just pick a woman to get the unhappy Hillary supporters. But I think such a right
winger will rally the Hillary supports behind Obama. It also shows how much the
far right does not understand what is happening.

Thanks to Blue Swan for the kind, true words. We were doing all right there for a while. And hopefully will be again soon.
JT X, your assertion that the media are rooting for Obama is laughable. McCain's long, long laundry list of gaffes, tantrums, misstatements, forgetting how many houses he has, vowing to militarily confront not only Iran but Russia and China as well... basically, these crazy rantings have been papered over by the media- they need a horse race to talk about. Obama's been picked over and critized for things like drinking orange juice, and visiting his grandmother in Hawaii. There's a full-time Republican channel devoted to hosting people to speculate wildly about whether he's an Ismamic terrorist Manchurian candidate Black separatist radical. It's called FOX "News" and it's their round-the-clock job to destroy him.
McCain's picking Palin- I couldn't be more grateful. Nothing against her personally, but an Alaskan "hockey-mom" with 20 months of governing experience, yet is already embroiled in a partisan firing controversy, has said she has no idea what a VP does, someone that no one has ever heard of.. it boggles the mind. Choosing her to woo disenchanted female Hilary voters is cynical and sexist in the extreme, since Palin stands for the exact opposite of Hilary's positions. It's either McCain's team is assuming those voters are stupid enough to vote for someone for having the same gender, or he's purposefully commiting some sort of hari-kari: he really doesn't want it.

didnt Obama threaten to invade pakistan? and lets not forget, even if he was just saying stuff to get elected,he put that out there with no opposition from all the anti Bush/war crowd. its telling, cause it makes the case they really dont care about war in as much as "their" choice gets in.
but actually JT X is right. Obama is the absolute darling of pretty much all the media except FOX.he has a lockdown on the media.
but its not for conspiracy reasons in some kind of left wing plot or ownership of the media.
its because we are americans. and old age in our culture just like in music is ..well ..."ewwwwww". so without a cool angle(Bush texas gunslinger) or goodlooking youth,he just doesnt garner the same kind of interest.I'm a republican and even I cant stand looking at the guy.
Obama can totally win. but it will be close. you have no idea how many white americans are fed up with the assumption they are racist and they now have a way to put it down officially how hip and progressive they are by voting in a black president.and in a double victory tell blacks to finally stop whining about being kept down.
cause they sure wouldnt be able to tell you his policys if asked on the street other than he will change stuff. but he has cool factor because of his race and star power. we LOVE that.how else can you explain arnold swartzenegger and jesse ventura getting voted in?
so Obama might be the next pres. who cares. once in office no matter republican or democratic ...that all fades away and they morph into some sort of american president mold that supercedes what party they came in as.

No, Obama didn't threaten to invade Pakistan. I believe he was speaking in the context of getting that murderous bastard who killed 3,000 people in New York City, and the Bush Administration's utter failure at achieving this basic justice.
"I'm not really concerned about Bin Laden", said Bush. He's on record as not caring a damn.
As a New Yorker, I say, get that f***er. It's justice. That day changed our city, changed our country, with violent horror. Bush's callous indifference to this, and exploitation of it, is abysmal. Obama's point was dealing forcefully with the sleazy corrupt Pakistani military clearly protecting Bin Laden, not giving them tens of millions of dollars like Bush has.

well of course for the UK and US governemnts letting Bin Laden remain free gives them the reason to impose ever more draconian undemocratic measures. God I hope Labour get the shit kicked out of them at the next election
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.

How laughable. That a christian anti-abortion, anti-premarital sex candidate, has a 17 year old daughter who had unprotected premarital sex and got pregnant. Serves the christian right right for believing that teens should be taught abstinence and shouldn't be taught about safe sex. When will they learn.

your thinking that she got pregnant because she was purposely denied knowledge about safe sex.
there are tribes in the remote regions of the congo who know what safe sex/condom and birth control is. its taught in all the schools in politically correct america. cripes I'm 34, a old dude, and I had it back in the day.I still shiver when I see a banana.she had the knowledge.....she just didnt use it. thats no comment on her mother, if anything it shows why she should have listened. talk about "when will they learn"!
this is a very good turn of events. hopefully they slam her morally in a vindictive way on this .there is an epidemic in america with teen pregnacys and parents/single moms in the same boat who will feel sympathy and feel they are being judged as bad parents via a simoiar situation.this can totally be used.

I don't know what is funnier - the girls' predicament, or her name. Who in their right mind calls their kid Bristol?!
It gets worse, the youngest child is called Trig. It would be even funnier if there is Irish blood there - Trig O'Nometry.

I've just got back from San Francisco (it's a long trip from Perth) and found all the coverage absolutely intriguing. Perhaps Glenn and Deschanel can tell me: Do many people actually watch it? People in the bar at Yosemite Falls Lodge seemed transfixed by McCain's acceptance speech on Wednesday. It was like they were watching a sporting contest.
