I watched both Obama's and McCain's acceptance speeches.

I liked McCain's speech but the trouble is, vote for him and you get the Republicans.

There was an incitefull comment by the BBC reporter :
"Yesterday when Palin spoke of drilling for oil in the Arctic, the crowd was
chanting 'Drill Baby Drill'. When McCain spoke about standing up to big oil,
the crowd were quiet".

I feel sorry for McCain. A basically good man, in a party of people who cant
face their own mistakes and want to go on repeating them.

Hi Glenn,
Yup, SF rocks. I wish I had longer there. I couldn't get over how polite everyone was. If you ask for directions etc, people can't do enough for you. On the roads, it's the same, Aussies could pick up a thing or two - on and off the roads.
SF is a beautiful city and a great place to walk/cable car around.

I watched both Obamas and McCains speeches. Loved Obamas, hated McCains. I thought McCains speech had the usual vulgar "patriotric" vile that republican speeches always have and which makes me sick, quite frankly. Obamas speech, on the other hand, was classy.

Shame on you Glen. Even I have driven across the GG.

Niall, that must have been a long trip. I used to do Sydney-Denver.
Door to door was about 24 hours. Fortunately I used to get business class.

I recommend United Airlines. Wonderful service. At least across the pond.

We used to have a choice of going via SF or LAX. I always went SF.
LA is a bit more ... intimidating.

Palin makes me feel very shallow. She's probably more right-wing than Thatcher but I most definitely *would*.

I'm a travel journalist so it's an occupational hazard. Flew to SF via Auckland. Premium economy between Auckland and SF which is like business was before flat beds. The entertainment system and food were both excellent on Air New Zealand so that was good.

I have not flown for 4 years now (illness).

But, oh man, it interesting how anyone who has done that trip across
the Pacific, becomes PASSIONATE about business class or whatever it is today.

I did Auckland to LA a few years ago, wasn't too bad actually in the cheap seats !

I think it was either Quantas or American Airlines. I did sleep for most of the way though and I was pretty well fed.

I have a question: lately the media is talking about Obama's religious points of view. I personally don't believe any personal life details should matter in an election, but, since I've been hearing contrasting information from the media, I was wondering does anybody knows if he is Christian or Muslim? These seem to be the 2 denominations he has been labeled with.

He's a Christian - he even has a mad pastor. However because his name sounds vaguely like Osama, some of the Republican cheerleaders have convinced the less bright members of the electorate that he lives in a big tent with bin Laden and the lads and doesn't eat pork. Similarly John McCain frequently dresses up as a gay clown and fights his nemesis, Hamburglar, who once locked him in his infamous citadel, Hamburglar Hill.

I don't know if it's funny or sad to know that we have people who really believe his name has connection to Osama Bin Laden.

His middle name is Hussein...I don't even want to think about the comments about that!

Says a lot about your attitude when you actually think that a communist like Obama gave a great speech. He hates his own country and surrounds himself with terrorists and criminals and racists. He refuses to have townhall meetings with McCain because when he goes off the teleprompter, he cannot gin up one coherent sentence. He is an empty suit that can only impress the gullible. He's like straight from a satire where we laugh about some opportunistic, slick sleazeball who gets away with it. And you were actually impressed with his speech? My word.....There's nothing statemanlike about him. He's just an immature, whiny manchild.
What's wrong with being patriotic and loving your country? If I said "Denmark sucks" it would be offensive,wouldn't it?
