Politics in any democratic state usually follows the same Patrician/Plebeian parties
of ancient Rome. It is just basic human nature.
One party represents the less well off and the progressive thinkers. (US=>Democrats)
The other side represents the better off and the conservative thinkers. (US=>Republicans)
This model was disrupted for a long time in the U.S. because of the civil war.
Because Lincoln was a Republican, for the next century, southern states and
anyone with a racist slant supported the Democrats.
Kennedy's support for black civil rights restored the normal balance. Since then progressive
people have joined the Democrats and conservatives came to dominate the Republicans.
This accelerated in the last 30 years as conservatives in the US and Australia actively
attracted the racist working class voters.
So any attack on the Democrats for their history before 1960 is simply exploiting
the division caused by the civil war and racism. What counts is the attitudes of the parties today.

My word! The "health risks" of the mother encompass all sorts of risks, be it physically or emotionally and age-wise(it was a supreme court riling). Thus, late-term abortions can be carried out in all cases on whatever reasons. And Obama voted against the ban on partial birth abortion. Partial birth abortion is not within the first three months of pregnancy! It If it doesn't make you sick thatBlueSwan wrote:Nonsense. It was a complete ban on PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTIONS. A ban that did not take into account the health risks of the mother.alig wrote:BlueSwan wrote: Exactly. So he did not vote FOR anything. He voted against a ban on partial birth adoptions, because it was a COMPLETE ban.
Compare it to someone who is against abortions, but believe that cases of rape or incest are exceptions. Such a person would vote against a ban on all abortions. Same thing applies here. Even you ought to be able to comprehend that concept.
It was NOT a complete ban. It specifically is about banning abortions that are carried out in the fifth month of pregnancy when a fetus is viable.Voting "present" means he voted against the "partial birth abortion ban." So basically Obama is in favor of killing a viable baby in the 8th month of pregnancy because it came from a rape. Not sick at all is it? A life is a life whether it came from rape or abortion. And he is also in favor of letting a baby starve to death. He is also in favor of the Freedom of Choice Act which would basically overrule all existing abortion laws. Minors could have abortions funded by the taxpayer without parents' consent.
Obama is all for late term abortions of fetuses that are viable and eight or nine months old, then you should seriously reconsider your ethics. As much as I find any kind fo abortion an abomination, if it's carried out within the first trimester, it's something I can compromise on. But aborting a viable fetus?! In a nutshell, Obama as a Marxist is naturally against the protection of unborn lives. Communists don't believe in God but only themselves and their Leader. Obama also voted against the "born alive infant protection act" which was supposed to give (after a afailed abortion) any unwanted and newborn baby human rights and thus a right to live so that doctors would have to keep the baby alive and not let it starve to death.
There are cases where babies that were born after failed abortions were left to die in utility rooms! This act even made it clear, that this act would not restrict the right to have abortions of a fetus within the womb and yet Obama voted against it because he is desperate for the voted from the abortionists. Obama is a sociopath with no conscience.
I'm gonna hate to say I told you so.

It's good to see Marxists agree on something that is totally bogus and applies to themselves. In psychoanalysis it's called projection. All that is rotten about themselves, the Democrats project onto the conservatives. Senator byrd is still in the Senate and was a member of KKK. If you can come up with a way of showing me what Democrats have done to help black people leave the ghetto, let me know. Handouts and keeping people dependent on the welfare state and ensuring their votes doesn't count as help. It's like a junkie-pusher relationship.Or maybe you're referring to the sexist criticism Sarah Palin has been enduring the past months from Feminazis and other bitter feminists just because she's female and conservative? How they criticized her for things they'd never apply to males? There are black conservatives, but the socialists loved calling Colin Powell "Uncle Tom" because he was black and dared be conservative. Or how about Justice Clarence Thomas? A conservative supreme court judge appointed by GHWB? they're not really blacks, are they?or what about Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindall? Not exactly a WASP, is he? they are conservative and therefore not black enough. you people reveal your racism and sexism all they time by your own words. if we conservatives are such backward conservatives, how come you despise Palin so much? how come conservatives are totally stoked about a female candidate if we are such sexists? seems like you are having problems with a female vp candidate. maybe you're just pissed off because you thought hillary would be the first female presidential nominee and now you don't even have a female vice vp candidate on the ticket. and let's see what party the first female prime minister of the UK came from? OOOPS! The tories! And boy did she kick ass! and what about Germany's Angela Mekel? OOPS! Conservative, too! Why don't you put your money where your mouth is, dear socialists? not that i care about what gender they are as long as they are qualified, but if someone were to play by your rules, you'd be the losers; SORE losers.BlueSwan wrote:Exactly!gregf wrote:Politics in any democratic state usually follows the same Patrician/Plebeian parties

1) I'm not a marxist/socialist. Never have been never will be. But I guess in your one dimensional view of the world anyone who supports any kind of welfare system or market regulation is a socialist. Guess what? You just flunked political science 101.alig wrote:It's good to see Marxists agree on something that is totally bogus and applies to themselves. In psychoanalysis it's called projection. 2) Palin is disliked because she's a reactionary, she's a religious fundamentalist and because she doesn't exactly appear to be too bright. That's a pretty scary combination. I've got nothing but the highest respect for Angela Merkel. I've was never a fan of Thatcher, but again that was because of her politics. She was a formidable politician though. None of them are disliked by the left because they are female.
3) I don't claim that the republican party employs racist policies. What we're arguing is that the vast majority of racists vote republican.

As I've stated several times now: Obama supports a partial ban on partial-birth adoptions. Why do you think he just voted "present" and not downright "no" to that piece of legislature? People often abstain from voting when they support the general idea of a bill, but doesn't support the particulars surrounding the bill.alig wrote:My word! Re: U.S. Presidential elections.
This last night, I hope you all cross your fingers and make a wish for us tomorrow. Or your today when you read this.
We will be doing our best tomorrow to get beyond the nightmare of the last 8 years. Say a lil prayer. Cannot tell you how energized everyone I know is to get out there tomorrow to do our best to make things right. Thanks.

Re: U.S. Presidential elections.
Well the big day has arrived.
For many outside the US, the issues may be the war in Iraq, the use of torture
and Guantanamo Bay.
I can remember President John F Kennedy saying in a speech : "the United Stated
should not attempt to rule the world through fear". For me, every election since has
boiled down to that one issue. Should the US maintain an imperial foreign policy ?
Lets hope Barrack Obama can be America's Gorbachev and bring the US back into
the community of nations.

Anybody who is in the UK should watch this documentary that was on BBC4 last night. It's worth it simply to see the look on the face of the Hollywood liberals when the Iraqi 'filmmaker' they brought to the Czech Republic to observe them at work says he loves George Dubya. Priceless.

Good to see that right-wing disinformation, smears and bullshit lies didn't pay off this time around.
