I think part of the problem with Kylie now is that a lot of her audience are trendy types, who don't give a damn about her music but listen because she's so cool, an icon, "oh I really dig Kylie in an ironic, post modern way" (btw I don't think this applies to people on this forum who by being PSB fans are evidently not that swayed by fashion). These people would probably have laughed at you if you had said 10 years ago you really liked 'Better the devil you know' and told you to listen to real music

When tackled by Jo Whiley live on Radio 1 why PSB chose Kylie as the female singer on In Denial, his lame defence was:
"Because she's fab, she's an icon."

That really explains things, hey? No mention at all about whether she's got a good voice, or can even sing! Pathetic.
I don't give a damn whether someone is an "icon" or not; you're only as good as your last record, and, I'm very glad to see, Kylie's latest really does live up to her reputation = pants.

She's lasted, yes, but does that mean she's good. And how about the period 1991-1999 then? Only one really big hit that anyone remembers, Confide In Me. She had to rely on the likes of Robbie to bring her back bigtime.
She's a puppet and a muppet. She lets other more savvy people call the shots, and when they tell her that she's big enough (again) to ditch pop and diversify she falls for it. Luckily the public seem not to be that stupid, for once.
I don't think you'll find many people calling the shots in Madonna's career. She's the boss, well and truly.
Kylie is a cheap inferior Madonna left-over, really. She needed those five years when M had a headstart to make sense of what Madonna did and then assemble all the best ideas and pass them off as her own. Or rather Pete Waterman did it for her.
I despise everything Waterman stands for. And I personally hold him responsible for the defacement and decline in UK pop from 1988 onwards.

As for longevity... Cliff Richard has been around for almost 50 years now. Well, he must be three times as brilliant as Kylie then!
There's no comparison between Madonna and Kylie. First of all, Madonna invented this whole ever-changing female artist thing. And she actually was the mastermind behind all her moves. And she also has co-written pretty much all of her best songs - and the similarity in melodic structures and mood sort of proves that she has actually contributed something to all those tracks. Madonna's oeuvre beats Kylie about 100 - 2. Live To tell, Open Your Heart, Like A Prayer (the whole album, an unknown concept to Kylie!), Justify My Love, Take A Bow, Ray Of Light (album!), and half of Music all defecate from a great height all over Kylie's life achievement.
Steve Fett, I'm not bitter. Quite drunk though. And I've drunk some bitter tonight, being a something of a connoisseur of British ales. My wife is calling me to bed now, so I must go. But Kylie sucks. She really does. Even with the help of PSB, Nick Cave, St Etienne and about everyone in the music biz, she still hasn't made enough good material for a decent best of. Well, she's an icon. So is Ronald McDonald, except Kylie's not as sexy.

I'm not talking about them or Cliff Richard. I'm sure both these artists have many fans, and I don't have issues with them...nor Madonna.
But just beacaue you are one of those people who obviously can't see past her PWL years (hey, that was 13 years ago), and can't admit or acknowledge her success in her 17 year career - I don't have to sit back and listen to people like you cry because you don't like Kylie's ass or voice or teeth or whatever. if you don't like her music, hey - don't listen to it ! Simple solution...
