Sales figures

#1 Post by Tom Angel »

Does anyone know if there is a website on which you can look at sales figures of Pet shop Boys (and others) albums?

Whats funny is PSb claimed they claimed they sold 100 mil but other sources say 50 mil, but I count over 20 mil with 8/10 known sales figures of albums, now the 100 mil or 50 mil would that be counted with singles/ EPs/ Discos/ Projects/ DVDs?

PSB have never claimed 100 million of anything. That's the EMI marketing dept. doing the maths. 50 million records sounds fair. The figures referred to in this thread seem a bit random, and does not include stuff like Disography, wich probably count for (my guess) 6-10 million sales.

I thought the best selling album of PSB was Actually. Did Fundamental sell more copies than Release and Bilingual?.

Theese numers are random. Bilingual obviously outsold Nightlife....
The best selling studio album, to this date, is supposed to be Introspective, counting for some 6 million copies if i remember correctly. Followed by Very, then Actually.

It's nice that they still pack a punch

Selling a fourth or a fifth of what you did in your hey-day is pretty awesome, really.

So why is Behaviour not mentioned? Sure there must be figures for that one too.

I think speculation that Introspective sold 6 million copies is accurate as Neil has repeatedly said over the years that it is ultimately their best selling album globally. I also seem to recall that Behavior sold around 2 million copies and Bilingual sold around 3 million but of course I could be mistaken. There was a lot of talk that Bilingual sales were disappointing after Very and that Nightlife surely signalled their decline as it sold much more poorly than Bilingual. Of course this list leaves off all the Discos, compilations, singles in all formats, etc. Let's not forget that Alternative went to an appropriate number 2 in the UK charts in spite of the fact it was a pricey double-album.
