Re: New Boy demo tape - Pet Text

Looking forward to hearing the 2018 finished version.
The tape is a real curiousity.
Take a look.
Notice it's Chris' handwriting, the same as his signature.
4 instrumental versions of 'stick it on'.
Songs 'looking for love' and 'don't ask me'.
Who knows if they were working titles for songs we're already familiar with.
I'm not clamouring for them, but interesting to know these other songs exist.

I'm looking forward to the 2018 version, but hearing the original demo would be even more exciting. I wish they would just release all this stuff, preferably in one big set. Nothing beats the underground years of the PSB.

And interesting about the multiple "Rent" versions...if I recall correctly...in the "Pop Art Interview CD" I think, Chris talks about how "Rent" was originally a HINRG stomper but PSB had too many "up" songs already produced for "Actually", so a solution, Andy Richards slowed "Rent" down by half and was able to help bring about a masterpiece. I would love to hear the HINRG version of "Rent".

There were sets of 80s pop stickers.
Maybe 'Stick it on' is 4 versions of a radio advert.

Looking For Love could have turned into To Speak Is A SinSage wrote: ↑Mon 09 Mar 2020, 2:11 pm Looking forward to hearing the 2018 finished version.

Another instrumental could have turned into One hit wonder? I recall that was an unused old track too

Re: New Boy demo tape - Pet Text
It’s the secret dream of every Pet Shop Boys’ fan that on these cassettes lurks an unrecorded monster song, another “West End Girls” or “It’s a Sin”. It’s just that, a dream; the archive has been plundered long ago.
I’m curious how they know what the music was when they occasionally revisit these old songs to record them properly. Are there 38 year old notebooks with the music noted down?

No, that's not the dream. The dream is to hear the original versions. A lot of it isn't just basement tapes, it's proper recordings from a 4-year period (1981-1985). There are probably at least three albums there: A Camden album, a Bobby O-album (if not two) and an 1985 pre-Please-album.TallThinMan wrote: ↑Mon 09 Mar 2020, 5:05 pm It’s the secret dream of every Pet Shop Boys’ fan that on these cassettes lurks an unrecorded monster song, another “West End Girls” or “It’s a Sin”.
