I'm encouraged by the reviews except that if Building a wall is as bad / misjudged as everyone is saying that's a real shame... it sounds a bit 'novelty' and if its crap and there's a stinker bang in the middle of the album..... not good

What I don’t understand is why so many people (well,at least, the lucky ones that heard the album) complain about the lyrics (they say the lyrics are weak, that there isn’t a strong quote, etc). The boys said they wanted to make a pop (and commercial) album. I think that’s why the lyrics aren’t strong or even cliché. Profound lyrics could make the album “too serious” for potencial listeners.

Still two months ahead..... I can't wait !!!!!!

PJ and one of the other reviewers think "All over the World" has to be the second single. So it's not average. It's in the group of the great songs (according to most of the reviewers). "This is a song about boys and girls" (it's like they had included "girls" because they planned this song to be commercial). "It's superficial and true / easy and predictable / exciting and new / to say ’I want you'" (ironic or not it sounds like Pet Shop Boys was trying to sound cool with a beautiful song for teenagers, according to Eldritch "they should leave it for the likes of Take That").

One very great thing about PSB is that even if the album tracks might disappoint, there is always some fantastic remix that blows me away and makes me change my mind. That will be the one I have on repeat, enjoying for days and weeks. Then I come around to really loving the album track it came from.

This has happened again and again. Certainly with Fundamental, a time-release CD if ever there was.
I may have found most of it gloomy and a downer at first, but it certainly grew on me, and I see how hasty I was judging it. Maybe this is the mark of very good artists..it's not instantly accessible, then disposable.

And then there are the b-sides and marvellous freaksongs that appear from left field, like Fugitive, while the album is still a going concern. So..never dull. Is it March yet?

I am getting a bit excited for this album. It sounds like it is more "Upbeat" than Fundy, but that album could have done with a few less down-tempo tracks in my view. I'm looking for Yes to be slightly better than Fundy, If they pull that off I will be thrilled If its good enough to get into the Please, Very or Behaviour territory I will require a change of shorts

I've red here and elsewhere that some reviewers are disappointed by the lyrics of the songs of "Yes". They say they are too obvious for the PSB standars... but hasn't Neil said that "Yes" is their most commercial record in 15 years? I haven't listened to "Yes", but in my opinion is clear that the lyrics have been written to be lighter by purpose...

I always get hit by the music first,lyrics second anyways.
consider some of the lyrics to "the loving kind", "sometimes I watch you when your sleeping" I mean he didnt reinvent the wheel, and yet they sound great on the track and serve its purpose.

if they are targeting a younger crowd more into pop I can totally see why the lyrics would be more light and bubblegum which is fine with me.

What worries me about the lyrics is all that "boys and girls", "a boy needs a girl", "wife" stuff. Like they can lie anyone now. I prefer their ambiguous, yet sincere lyrics.
