There seems to be a lot of commotion about the lyric 'dance like you just won the Special Olympics' in Rudebox. Some people wonder why the commotion started only now; Rudebox was released as a single some weeks ago already.

Am I right in thinking that the mentioned lyric was NOT present in the single version of Rudebox? (I don't have the single version at hand to play at the moment)

btw: I like the album a lot! Rudebox is good, Viva Life On Mars is nice, Lovelight is fantastic, She's Madonna and We're The Pet Shop Boys are good.

I also like The Actor a lot. It sounds very PSB, certainly when Robbie repeats the word 'Ritchie' 3 times. It reminds me of 'New York, New York, New York' in Paninaro.

Re the lyric - It's certainly in my copy of the single - but I think was edited out for radio.

Well, I've just given Rudebox a 1st listen & I like it.

Naturally, I bought it for She's Madonna & WTPSB but I'm pleased to find Robbie has a couple of other PSB related moments along the way.
For instance:

In Viva life on Mars, we get the lyric -- from Lake Geneva to the Finland Station.

And, on Good Doctor, he says erection - PSB have started a trend ..

(I've only been loosely keeping tabs on this thread, so if this is old news, forgive me & my champagne addled brain ..... )

Never really liked R. Williams but I've finally listened to the Album cos of the PSB thing. I like 'She's Madonna'. Only cos it sounds abit like PSB. (I will now punish myself for listening to something non PSB, forgive me father for I have sinned).

Saw that a while back, but it went quiet after the initial burst of publicty.

Did they settle? Are proceedings going ahead? All very quiet!

I just find the album a bit weird. Of course She´s Madonna and We´re the Pet Shop Boys are the best songs on it.

As far as Amazon reviews go, they find the album boring and even one haughty reviewer dares to advice Robbie to make collaborations with Shakira instead of has-beens like Pet Shop Boys

PET SHOP BOYS will bring in the new year by having a Highland Fling with ROBBIE WILLIAMS.

NEIL TENNANT and CHRIS LOWE are headlining the famous New Year’s Eve celebrations in Edinburgh.

And the whisky-fuelled revellers are in line for a late Christmas present with a guest appearance from the Pets’ pop pal Robbie.

He is lined up to perform She’s Madonna with the electropop legends at the Hogmanay bash, as they call it up north.

The Pets used their knob-twiddling skills on the ode to Madge, which features on Rob’s latest album Rudebox. I reckon there couldn’t be a better ticket in the country to see in 2007 with a bang. A source said: “Robbie, Neil and Chris have become close pals over the last 12 months.

“They performed together earlier in the year for a radio show and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“It will be one hell of a party up in Edinburgh.

“Robbie is up for doing at least one number but if things are going well he could end up doing more.”

Robbie is off the booze but the Pet Shop Boys are well known for enjoying a proper knees-up.

Their live shows are always a massive spectacle and the New Year do won’t be any different.

I was there the last time Robbie performed with Neil and Chris.

In May they played a special gig for Radio 2 in the Mermaid Theatre in London — and it was brilliant.

The December gig is billed as The Concert In The Gardens at Edinburgh’s Royal Bank Street Hogmanay Party.

It takes place in Edinburgh City Centre on December 31 and usually attracts about 300,000 bladdered punters.

The PSB’s live show is currently getting rave reviews in the USA and they are promising to play all the classic tracks from their 25-year career.

She’s Madonna will be released as a joint Robbie/Pet Shop Boys single in January and will coincides with the start of the Boys’ full UK tour the same month.

PAOLO NUTINI, Scotland’s new ROD STEWART, is also on the Hogmanay bill. So I reckon it’s worth packing some headache pills — in anticipation of the hangover — and getting up there.
