Luna park is one of their finest tunes in the tradition of the Theatre and Dreaming of the Queen.

And what a title - interestingly Bret Easton Ellis published a novel of the same name around that time!

Re: Track-by-Track: From Please to Nonetheless

I Want a Lover - those frantic horns and the desperation in this song that captures everything a teenage boy (or girl) could have wanted. This has never been a 'gay' album or 'queer' as someone recently tired to claim. It's the rush of electronics capturing the lust of (night) life accessible to any...

Re: Track-by-Track: From Please to Nonetheless

As they've observed, you can definitely chart an alternative universe where this as a classic one-hit wonder. They'd be fondly remembered, Chris having returned to designing staircases in Milton Keynes and Neil would pop up on BBC4 documentaries occasionally talking about The Waste Land and Grandma...

Re: Track-by-Track: From Please to Nonetheless

The train announcement is at Victoria station and is the 14:27 Epsom Downs service calling at Battersea Park, Clapham Junction, Wandsworth Common, Balham (almost inaudible), Streatham Common and presumably all other stations to Epsom Downs, via West Croydon. I've never heard a train announcement in...

Re: Your Instant Classics

An open mind would win the B-side most likely to get to no.1 if anyone knew what this anymore award.

How such a pedigree, perfectly produced gentle anthem such as this missed being on Hotspot as its lead single is a mystery. There are b-sides and then there's an open mind.

Same here - I'd have thought there would be a 12" announced by now -

Loneliness feels as though it has dropped, only to be forgotten.

Re: Wilderness years?

It wouldn't surprise me if Neil's just had a bad chest infection. There's been a lot of colds and viruses going round the UK since the autumn. I've had three in this time - the latest of which caused me to lose my voice and sound croaky just like Neil does now as I was recovering. Took weeks gettin...

Re: Your Instant Classics

An instant classic was A face like that on Elysium. It starts with a sweltering pounding baseline, those elegant and decisive bells, before sweeping into a wistful vocal and summons up the images of Domino dancing and a tropical storm was passing through /and so were you It was a hark back to the ho...

Re: New album Nonetheless

I assume that Anne Dudley is also on the album ..? --- As well as Anne Dudley and the BBC Concert Orchestra, we were joined in the Radio 2 Piano Room last week by three wonderful singers: Nile Bailey, Bim Amoako-Gyampah and Senab Adekunle. They also sing on our new album. --- She is not. Well, Anne...

Surely there's going to be a 12" ..?

Maybe there will be another single just before the album - say a week before is what I'd guess

This is a weird choice. It doesn’t work.
Always forget they even did this - despite being a a crystal palace fan. It always sounded as if they had put in zero effort.

Re: PSB at Royal Opera House

Going on Saturday.

Here's hoping for a non Dreamworld show with new songs and plenty of B-sides. Time for A man could get arrested to have it's live debut.
