Re: Rate "Dreamland"

I'm not a fan of singles that get called "growers" mainly because that means they're not set up to take immediate advantage of limited radio play, and Dreamland definitely gives its secrets away slowly. But when it does, it's utterly infectious. The almost distorted wall of sound hides a great bathh...

Re: Pet Shop Boys - Hyde Park Sep 15th 2019

I enjoyed Olly. That's his schtick, mixing a kind of innocence, seduction, and provocation to upset the upsettable. Neil looked positively statesmanlike, in comparison, which is a look that suits him at 65. I liked his get up. It'll be instructive to see if BBC Radio 2 continue to support Dreamland ...

Re: Rate "Dreamland"

Ha ha, I’m loving this career nadir. I hope it gets even more nadiry and then I can start calling it Ralph.

Neil is 65. Pet Shop Boys, Departure hasn’t been announced just yet. The last 20 years have been a massive bonus. I’d just enjoy the ride. Nothing lasts forever. Take Billie Trix’s advice.

Re: Rate "Dreamland"

I really like Dreamland. It fizzes with energy. From the celestial bathhouse that sets the scene to Chris's patented chunky bassline, it's hard not to get swept away in the somnambulant wistfulness of it all. Neil undertaking yet another act of escapology, accompanied, this time, by a slightly over-...

Re: September single...???

The lyrics video is fantastic. It’s a slightly surreal feeling arriving into Dreamland, AKA Alexanderplatz, every morning with the song in the headphones and seeing all of the elements of the station that you previously took for granted in a new light. I’ll say this though: they took the best part o...

Ah, those Pet Ship Boys. Legendary purveyors of such nautical hits as West End Gulls, Sail Away, Undertow, and Dreamland Ahoy.

I don't know why Spotify doesn't let me listen to it. :wall:
Well, I'd hazard a guess that either you don't have any ears or it's not been released yet.

Re: September single...???

Can we all just wait to actually, you know, hear the record before judging it, condemning it, and banishing it to the far, unnavigable reaches of the catalogue where it will forever silently orbit Disco 2 in the notorious, ice-bound company of Winner, E-Smoove, and In Private with Elton John? I mean...

Re: September single...???

It looks like the artwork is from this station in particular. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190910/cb15c2be35295d164244145185bf0553.jpg So, if this is indeed the first single from the new album, we could be looking at an U-Bahn map as the album artwork inspiration. Or some tiles. Amazing. Dric...

Re: September single...???

Nice ironic touch: Alexanderplatz is a dump. That said, it's a dump with a touch of character.

Re: September single...???

Surely a new single would have been released last Friday to maximise publicity. BBC Radio 2 have an incentive to promote them while they need to flog tickets and drum up a buzz, so it would have been a no-brainer to give them a new single to rotate. After the show, what’s in it for Radio 2? Unless, ...
