Re: Dricography: Ranking Introspective

Has everyone else got a different version of Introspective to me?! On my version Domino Dancing has sung rather than spoken vocals (apart from the middle bit) and the thunderstorm is between the end of Left to My Own Devices and I Want a Dog. On my copy I’m Not Scared comes after Domino Dancing. Hi...

Re: Dricography: Ranking Introspective

Ps. My point, compressed: That thunderstorm between the songs is one of my favorite parts of Introspective, so distinctive and memorable. It was cool back then, as it it gave me chills at how cool it was, and I still love it.

Re: Dricography: Ranking Introspective

I have always loved your brilliant writing on the songs Drico, because they reward close attention that you've paid and remain great, and you write so well about them. And I love that you relate them to your own life much more, autobiography, than you used to do when this site started. (I was going ...

Re: the big silence

Pet Shop Boys new album "Silence" with limited edition extended version double album "Big Silence" released Sept 31st.... ;-) A whole album that extends John Cage's experimental silent "4'33" way beyond, maybe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4′33″ PSB have kind of been "silent" for a long time thoug...

Ooops, that wasn't a private message to Marie I thought I'd sent. Quite public! I shall bear the shame of it all with dignity and ATTEST to Marie's good lady character FORTHWITH to the local magistrate.

Hey Marie, thanks for your nice reply, SO sorry I've taken weeks and weeks to see it! (Talking about letters to the Queen, etc.). Hope you are well, it's almost the weekend, hope you have a great one. Cheers!

Re: Pet Shop Boys and Fashion

PSB and and (high, discriminating design and) fashion have always gone together beautifully and artistically. Just think of all of their styles and costumes and collaboration in creating striking visual images, way ahead of their time. They avoided the pitfalls of trying a look that was of the momen...

Marie, you went above and beyond there! Glad you did, "I had only sent a letter to the Queen etc... " is great fun to read. Journalism and royal intrigue, thanks Marie. :) I said many years ago, if it's offered , Neil should take the gong, Chris can turn it down, whatever. On the other hand, having ...

Ha ha, that awkward moment when somebody who hasn't been around for ages comes crashing back "tired and emotional." Welcome back, Deschanel. You - and your performance-enhanced streams of consciousness - have been missed. Drico. I cannot tell you how happy and smiling this kind and gentlemanl...

Re: Adam Clayton is the Chris Lowe of U2.

There's something creepily needy about U2. It's kind of ironic, really, but back when Neil and Chris were being accused of being arch pop strategists, planning chart domination as if it were Operation Barbarossa, U2 were supposed to be this authentic rock and roll band of substance and sincerity wh...

Re: Adam Clayton is the Chris Lowe of U2.

No way, Larry Mullen is the Chris Lowe of U2. Have a look at the video of them performing acoustically on the streets of New York on their Facebook page from yesterday. Larry looks bored to tears! Dear me, I totally meant to say Larry Mullen Jr. was the Chris Lowe of U2. I completely meant Larry an...

Re: Philip Tennant and his brother Neil

This picture doesn't appear in my (US?) edition of PSB vs. America. I would've remembered it, because I was curious about Neil's family. I remember it being noted when I did read an article years ago about a reporter talking to Neil's brother, and then asking Neil why his accent was so different fro...

[CORRECTED HUGELY] Larry Mullin Jr. is the Chris Lowe of U2.

He's always sort of been that way. Moody and retreating and doesn't like to smile in photos. Anyway, it's two months old or so, "You're the Best Thing About Me" is a mediocre song but the video is a nice and another valentine to NYC from U2. And Larry (edited from Adam) is very Chris Lowe in it, I t...

Please Pet Shop Boys, blow our minds.

I would love nothing more right now than if PSB dropped some killer powerful one-off single with no notice, something epic, danceable, and soaring, along the lines of "Fugitive", something whomping and vast and ecstatic.

It's nice to wish! :)

Re: Say It To Me (Real Lies Remix)

I love this mix. Reminds me a bit of Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia" in its melancholy and wistfulness.
