Did you see me coming? (Eddie Valdez Mix)

I’ve recently discovered the Eddie Valdez mix of Did you see me coming. Does anyone know the story behind this? It didn’t seem to get an official release and I’m my opinion it is the best version of this song, not overproducted like the album version or flat and repetitive like the possibly more mix...

Re: Neil is a guest on this week’s Bigmouth Podcast

Ooo thanks for sharing. This is why I love checking this forum, you don't miss anything. Here's the goss; Written tonnes of songs Written "a sort of theatre piece" Remixed Paul Weller (Chris did it, Neil sung some vocals on it) -Kind of a symphonic remix, in 3 movements. It lasts for 12 a...

Re: New Quietus article

I appreciate something like this is entirely subjective but for me quite a number of essential tracks have been overlooked: A new life I get excited It must be obvious My October symphony The survivors For all of us Love is a catastrophe Always The Resurrectionist Fugitive The way it used to be Kin...

Re: New Quietus article

Nice to see "social media" get some love. I think its one of their best tracks in years. I think that one track is better than most of Hotspot I agree! A fun upbeat song and the lyrics are right on the money. Overall I thought it was a lengthy and well varied list. Disco Potential was a s...

Re: Neil's voice archetypes

Speaking Neil for me Left to my own devices, Love is a bourgeouis construct, it's a sin and The way it used to be (although Neil's voice is more melodic in that song and possibly Suburbia as well)a lower pitch sound. I don't like the high octave "Bee Gee" Neil who's trousers are too tight...

Re: Neil's voice archetypes

King of Rome is probably my favourite Falsetto Neil. Enviado desde mi M2007J17G mediante Tapatalk I don’t enjoy his vocals on Before. I do think King of Rome is some of his best vocal work. I do enjoy the "there's a story of a man who loved too much..." part a lot. Enviado desde mi M2007J...

Re: Neil's voice archetypes

Falsetto Neil. Most of "Before" I must admit that I'm not a fan of falsetto Neil. But sometimes it works. Like in "King of Rome" There is just something about that song. The falsetto just flows there. King of Rome is probably my favourite Falsetto Neil. Enviado desde mi M2007J17...

Re: Hotspot: 1 year old today

To me Hotspot is two different albums. I do get what they were going for but the listening experience is too manic for my taste. I have removed the slow tracks and it works effectively as an upbeat sort of lo-fi EP about escapism, Decide leading the journey into the unknown. I listened to it this wa...

Re: Pet Shop Boys, Lately: Your Top 20 of the Last 10 Years

With the success of the new Russell T Davies drama, Its A Sin, there's likely to be a bit more interest in Pet Shop Boys from those who may not be that familiar with their nifty line in highbrow wit, romantic sincerity, and bizarre headgear - all set to a disco beat. Indeed, various charts have sho...

Re: Hotspot: 1 year old today

Side note, I feel that Neil and Chris were already ready for the next album which will apparently be more like Burning the heather, as about 1/3 of Hotspot is leaning that way.

Re: Hotspot: 1 year old today

I personally liked the songs on this album quite a bit, but I agree they work better separated. Like a lot of us do I have compiled my own Hotspot album, removing You are the one, Hoping for a miracle, Burning the heather and Only the dark. (I do however very much like each of these songs, just not ...

Re: Hotspot: 1 year old today

I think that lyrically and musically it is right up there. For me the big fat elephant in the room is the 'eighties technology' that was used to record it. It just sounds so 'muddy'. I get why they wanted it sound like this - 'Berlin, Bowie, Hansa' - and as artists they are allowed to create it as ...

Re: Hotspot: 1 year old today

Haven't been to LA so couldn't tell. Been to Berlin many times, lived there even for a while, and I can honestly tell you I get no Berlin feeling at all from Hotspot. Neil namedropping a few metro stations isn't enough. There's more London and even England than Berlin on the album. Dreamland, Hopin...

Re: Neil and Chris and their big secret we speculate about, from time to time

I am male. I am heterosexual. It is not a particularly defining part of my personality but I believe it to be a fact, as do my wife and presumably my children. I have many female friends. At work, I am in an otherwise entirely female team. A good number of these women are also my friends. All of th...
