Re: Single versions

Such a shame that DJ Culturemix isn't on iTunes. As someone who prefers to own the original medium, make and manage his own digital copies for listening — I actually like the fact that iTunes etc. do not have certain out-of-mainstream tracks. It duly emphasises the secondary nature and inferiority ...

Re: Chris playing keytar

I do like it when Chris actually plays music onstage. I wonder if on any of these keytar occasions the thing was actually connected to the sound system and so was able to produce sound when the keys were pressed.

The slightly extended percussive intro to “Before” on the album kills the song’s momentum for me.
Absolutely love the album intro. Wish there was an extended version of it. The butchered intro on the single version sounds sooo insufficient 8) .

Re: Suede Live at The Roundhouse w/Neil Tennant

Just listened to that "Rent" track. If not for the vocals I would hardly ever figured out it was Rent. At times I thought Neil was attempting to sing it over a completely different backing track.

Re: Single versions

From the Reissues sleeve notes: We then asked Andy Richards, who worked with Julian Mendelsohn, if he wanted to do a song with us. I only wrote the third verse when we did it with him and I think I changed the lyrics a bit as well. The first version we did with him, with the syn drum on it, ended up...

They recorded the single version first, and then remixed it for the album.
Oh well. Hopefully I'll read all those Literallies/Sleeve notes when I'm retired

What always blows my mind is that the single version of Heart came first. The album version is “actually” the reworked one.
????
Actually released 7 Sep 1987
Heart released 17 Mar 1988

Re: Single versions

Among those single/radio edits that are merely shorter versions of the album tracks (as opposed to having additional production), there is a subset of very disappointing ones. These sound not just edited to be shorter, but mutilated without adding any value whatsoever. Hate them. Some examples: Thur...

I don’t think this is new.
Parlophone has been part of Warner for years, yes. But they didn't own PSB stuff from Electric onwards. This is new now.

He possibly ended up selling the files digitally outside eBay. There was quite some interest according to the listing.

Re: "Winner" - the love and hate battle of this forum

I've been always wondering why Neil made it " I've been a loser " and not " I was a loser ". Clearly the context implies that the person singing the song used to be a loser in the past but not anymore now — now they're a winner. Doesn't " I have been " refer to something which had started in the pas...

Re: It Couldn't Happen Here DVD/BluRay 2020 - Summary of pressings?

I'd be happy to be proven wrong but I'm fairly sure there are only two editions so far — Deluxe and Standard with no difference in digital content whatsoever. The DVD disc is 25 fps, normal speed. The Bluray disc is 24 fps, containing all the same frames and hence proportionally slower speed / lower...

....and all those postcards will go straight in the bin. There must be some legal leverage to verify draw stats e.g. how many free entries by post received and how many of them got gig passes. The percentage must be roughly the same as among those who entered the draw by donation. Otherwise it woul...

Re: Pet Shop Boys - Electric Ballroom

For a minimum donation of £5 donors will be entered into a prize draw to win entry to the PSB event for themselves and a guest. What the ad does not say (but the fine print does) is that you can enter into the draw for free by post. This appears to be what frees the organisers from having to admit ...

Re: Remixes you think are better than the original version

I don't hear too much difference between the Ambient and After Hours Climax mixes. Both are very similar to my ears. They definitely can easily be told one from the other: "after hours climax" has drums, "ambient" doesn't. You must be listening to the wrong/mislabeled source. I suggest you check th...
