Re: New BBC 'imagine...' documentary on Pet Shop Boys confirmed for Spring 2024

Saw Neil with Alan Yentob (who makes these Imagine shows) at the Rufus Wainwright Prom last summer. Neil was superb with the fan who stopped him on the corridor before my slightly disastrous encounter where I confused him rather than just saying ''Hello Neil!!!! Tell us about it Sandy, I love heari...

Closer to Heaven - London 2024

There is a new production of Closer to Heaven, launching at the Turbine Theatre in Battersea, running 31 May - 30 June. This will be the third small theatre production of the show, I really enjoyed the last two!

They wouldn't be able to at the ROH as the venue will be booked up far in advance. This run would have been booked last year. I'm sure there will be more Dreamworld dates announced elsewhere though.

Re: Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live At The Royal Arena Copenhagen

I think they were dropped because they pause the energy of the show a bit. Maybe it seemed like a good idea at the time but in practice they just didn't like it.

I don't remember these being at the o2 in 2022.

Re: Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live At The Royal Arena Copenhagen

The official Facebook account has just posted an interesting update regarding sound quality at some cinemas. I do remember Neil saying (around the time of Battleship Potemkin in 2004) that his worst nightmare at their performances is poor sound, so they'll be pretty angry about this I imagine. From ...

Re: New Single - Loneliness

The more I listen to Loneliness, the more I like it. There's a lot of detail in it, and I really like the structure. The string sound at the beginning is ethereal. Up into a single verse and straight into a half chorus, which gets it going nice and quickly. The second chorus gets part B, "when ...

Re: Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live At The Royal Arena Copenhagen

The profit margins in releasing a concert film on Blu-ray are small enough without having to licence music that isn't theirs. I love the Babel tune, it's an integral part of the Dreamworld live experience for me, but it'll be licenced for them to play it at live venues rather than release it themsel...

Re: Artwork

I was pleased when they hinted in the contents for Annually 2024 that they had done a photoshoot for the album cover. PSB portraiture is always very interesting. Who remembers the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in 2007? So keeping it interesting working with interesting collaborators, f...

Re: Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live At The Royal Arena Copenhagen

I saw it at the Barbican in London last night. The first thing to note is that the film is excellent. It's very well-shot, the grading is nice, it looks filmic. I've read a couple of comments about the film "not filling the screen" - this is the chosen aspect ratio, from memory it looked l...

Re: New album Nonetheless

A good write-up in the NME here: https://www.nme.com/news/music/pet-shop-boys-announce-new-album-nonetheless-with-single-loneliness-3579879 Good quotes: “We wanted this album to be a celebration of the unique and diverse emotions that make us human," “From the more dance-orientated tracks to th...

Re: 2024: An exciting year ahead

Why would there be a template for the album? 'Burning the heather' is five years old. We know so far that they are using a lot of strings and that it is very melodic. Template is perhaps the wrong word, but it was just that comment they made about 'Burning the Heather' previewing the sound of the n...

Re: 2024: An exciting year ahead

Given how their albums are often a reaction against the previous album, I’m very curious to hear how this one sounds and whether ‘Burning the Heather’ in fact ended up being the template. Fingers crossed that it didn’t end up as the template. What is the Volume project? Why would there be a templat...

Re: 2024: An exciting year ahead

Canveyboy, you're quite right! I'm seeing Dreamworld at the Barbican on 31 January, it's going to be my reward for (hopefully) achieving some things in the first month of the year. The trailer looks great, and in fact those seeing at the Barbican have been moved into the larger Cinema 1 due to deman...

2024: An exciting year ahead

Here we are, out here in the far future in 2024, and it is very exciting to think we are only weeks away from a new PSB 'era' beginning. It is also hard to imagine that Hotspot came out nearly four years ago. With the pandemic changing everyone's life in so many ways, early 2020 seems like a complet...
