Re: 25 years of Can You Forgive Her

Oh, the excitement when it came out. That video! To completely reinvent themselves and still keep or even accentuate the essence of what made them PSB was genius. Instantly makes me want to watch it again. The arrangement has not aged too well, maybe, but still a definite classic. The remixes, oh we...

Re: Why do people hate “Before”?

The whole Bilingual era was quite disappointing. They suddenly looked old to me, lacked enthusiasm (Se a vida é seemed a bit forced, I used to think) and Before was just the most monotonous single of their career up to that point. The remixes all sounding the same didn't help. I was more into Britpo...

Re: Reissues project

Nah, they're simply of two minds on which tracks to hide minor variations. My bets are on an additional orchestra hit or three on A Different Point of View.

Re: Which Single Package Would Be Most Miserablism to Listen To In Toto

For a long time I would have said Liberation, too. These days I only get the lightest of cramps when the E Smoove mixes play.

But I think for me New York City Boy takes the prize. I can hardly stand the 4 minutes of the radio edit, let alone over an hour of remixes. Plus the b-sides are rubbish.

Still wondering whether I should have ordered one in Dresden. This is getting insane.

Re: Reissues project

Just better sounding CDs. The logic I guess, was to have them available again. The 2001 issues were going for high prices on eBay, so anyone late to the party can now get better versions of the Further Listening sets at a fair price. The die hard PSB fans can choose to self flagellate and buy themse...

Re: Reissues project

By the way, Violence is slightly different on the new remaster... after the first verse the chorus starts immediately and is repeated more often, instead of the short instrumental part that used to be there.

Re: Reissues project

Does it still have the "A Man Could Get Arrested" mix with an alternate intro (compared to the original 12")? Did they replace the alternate mix of Opportunities 12" (the one with lots of bad edits, sounds like a rejected mix?) with the correct Dance mix? What about "I Want To Wake Up", is it the v...

Re: Reissues project

Thats not a mastering error, its an edit choice made of the 12" mix of Don Juan, and also appears on the b-side of the 12" of Domino Dancing, part of the original extended version, and not a mistake on the Further Listening cd. Nah. :) No, really. On the original CD single (and 12" record) that par...

Re: The Catalogue Interviews - put your questions to Julian Mendelsohn!

So looking forward to this... anyway, here are my 2.5 questions: Was doing extended mixes just part of the job of being a producer in the 80s for you and/or were there aspects about it you missed going into the 90s when DJs took over that job for the most part? How much autonomy did you have when re...

Re: Reissues project

The multitrack 'stems' wouldn't be needed, as no adjusting of levels or re-remixing of individual parts needs to take place. As far as I'm aware, no remasters have ever gone back to the original mutitrack parts (apart from those for 5.1 surround sound versions). Indeed. There are quite a few instan...

There is a 'jump' glitch at the start of Building A Wall on the CD version as well, so maybe this is what you are hearing?

Re: Pet shop boys - Literally Book

Got the hardcover edition of Literally in 5th grade before I could even read English and it took me ages and wore out a dictionary to get through it. Made me want to learn English more than anything else, really. To say I was a bit of a fan would be an understatement. Would love to revisit this, so ...
