I know yesterday (13th March) was the first time a new PSB track had been played in ages, but (as per the long standing forum rules) in future all public requests for copies of any new track, PSB or otherwise, will be deleted and/or threads containing requests closed. We will officially...
I put together a Pet Shop Boys Halloween playlist and realised there’s loads to go at. They are masters of the macabre!
Over the years Neil has taken lyrical inspiration from various spooks and ghouls and historical horrors. A number of their songs address different forms of madness or psychosis,...

How good Vampires worked on Montage, the version was better than the one in Nightlife and the backing vocals were so amazing:
The lost 1992 album. Yep, they had sort of enough material for a 1992 release. Let's pretend there was no Discography. Streets and DJC would've been non album singles for quite a while and Was it worth it would've been a regular album track. Instead we get the top-10 hit Crying Game featuring Boy...

Just came to mind that they had Confidential ready in 1992 as well but I'm far from sure it would've been good for the album, at least not with Neil's voice. With Tina it would've been a smash on the album but she didn't record her version until 1995.
I tried to make a list of Neil's solo songs he did in the 1970's (and in the 1980s before meeting Chris). I've gone through the 100 Lyrics book and sifted through most of the FL booklets. I guess, because of general lack of detailed information, I put a song on the list without concern if the...

So Neil had material for at least two albums written in the 70's
N&C demoed enough songs for two albums in Ray Roberts studio
They recorded enough songs for an album with Bobby O
They (almost) had enough material properly recorded for an EMI album even before the Please sessions started.
It's almost that time of the year to start my training program for the big one and this time I've decide I want to listen to music to kill that boredom of long runs (yes I'm being careful and have bone conducting headphones, no It's not usually possible run with someone).

Thanks everyone for your responses.
I suspect that some of my running might have to be on treadmill, which i found boring as hell.
I normally run without music (traffic etc) but have recently got myself some bone conducting headphones and thought I give it a shot, especially once it comes to...
Haven't heard it yet...but there you go...
(edit: I've heard it - it's about as exciting as you'd expect - i.e. not - he sings a couple lines from West End girls in the back third of the track, if you can sit through the first 2 thirds! )

It's hard to call it music. It's impossible to listen to.
In addition to a ten page article where DJs list their favourite PSB remixes the latest Disco Pogo magazine includes a long interview with James Ford. This is what he has to say about PSB and the new album.

Another James Ford produced Album I’m looking forward to, is the debut from The Last Dinner Party. I watched them live last week, and I was really impressed. I predict they’ll be the biggest UK Band since the Arctic Monkeys
Another rarity if anyone has a copy, is the TSB commercial/ promo that followed a couple of female fans to watch the boys play back in mid 80’s (guessing ICA?)?
Recently returned to Lost EP and finally realised it's really really great. I've especially fallen for I Will Fall. Such a sweet melody (I guess one of the happysad melodies). And such a great love lyrics.
So how do they still create a melody that seems so effortless but at the same time unique...

It’s a beautiful track. Wasted being relatively hidden away. The other track I think matches it for sentiment, romance and lushness is One Night.
I've missed ordering first day covers for this issue but it's good to see one of the official DSB stamps using a photograph from the BBC Electric proms and also a mention of Pet Shop Boys in the presentation pack.
Also my workplace the Royal Albert hall gets a mention and two labels in the...

I saw on ebay nice PSB Dreamworld stamps. But my stamp collecting was left in childhood :)
Bless! Yes, I've just been viewing those too, although it claims they are valid for posting from Ukraine I think they are Cinderella stamps (labels). Someone has gone to great lengths to produce and print...
The second hand record store strikes again. Well, not my usual two water holes (where I've found Dusty and Liza vinyls and CTH-soundtrack etc) but this time a third second hand record store a bit further away. Anyway lo and behold yesterday I finally found a CD copy of the hilarious Goes...

If I recall correctly, the PSB version of Little Black Dress was at one point going to be on one of the Further Listening CDs but it contains a sample of something and they couldn't get it cleared?

Turned Around, from his Today album, is superb. If sung by Dua Lipa or even if The Weeknd sung it, it'll be a worldwide smash, but as it's sung by a 53 year old bloke from Scotland, it didn't stand a chance
With the “general” release of Relentless, it’s got me reminiscing of that heady Summer/Autumn of 1993.
What are your stories of buying the album?
How did you feel walking into Our Price and seeing that orange CD case on the shelves?
Did you push the boat out and grab the Very/Relentless copy?

I knew beforehand of the 2 different releases (very and very + relentless) so I remember asking my mate Neil who worked in WH Smiths, to get me a copy of Very Relentless. I remember him giving to me as I picked him up for archery later that evening.
Episode 2 of the latest season of Drag Race UK, the runway challenge was Pet Shop Girl… sadly no Neil Tennant as Guest Judge or even a PSB song as lip sync challenge.
Wonder if the boys were ever approached by the producers about having their songs be used on the show or even as a guest judge.....

oh wow! but i've rarely heard male (sung) songs on the show?!

Adam? Who the heck is Adam?
I think it was some troublemaker on that defunct forum... where I used to have much fun, back in the days of my early PSB fandom (many fans from there were on this forum too) :)
I was hoping to see a PSB track on here, It’s a sin would’ve been the obvious choice, though their version of I’m in love with a married man would’ve been great. But there are a couple of gems so sharing for those who are interested;

Yeah I saw this drop in my email and was surprised it didn't have actual PSB on it. Nothing to see here really. Looks like a fun set, but I'll give it a miss.
I wish PSB would do more with their fantastic catalogue, particularly while they are between albums and are busy touring. There are plenty of things I would happily part with money for and would plug gaps in their range. And I don’t mean pulling out substandard demos to pad out new editions of...

The main reissues I'd like to see is the complete back catalogue of singles from 1985 to 1997.
It's sort of crazy to think of how exclusive these songs are, especially when they're from the most
popular time in PSB's timeline.
After seeing how other artists such as Human League and Depeche Mode...
Recentrly I put the Ab-fab maxi in the player and it dawned on me that the Dull Soulles Dance Music mix is by the PSB themselves. I sort of always assumed (by ignorance) that it was a mix by someone else.
But the mix is basically a song on its own. It bares little resemblance to the original track....
I was just watching this for the first time in ages, and think it's beautiful and really suits the mood of the song. If you're going to release a Diane Warren ballad then you obviously have to make a Russian Constructivist video. Aerosmith did.

Marking the Roxy Music mainman’s 78th birthday, the blog has a retro rewind to fellow Geordie and Pet Shop Boys frontman Neil Tennant in audio spoken word, reflecting on Bryan in Bel Air, circa 1974’s Another Time Another Place, in a film called Sophis....
As the subject suggests, does anyone know which brand of cap Chris is wearing in the Domino Dancing video? It is Pink with multicoloured stripes, it has black writing on the back which I can't quite make out.
Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I still haven't manage to track it down, but I will! The fashions from the late 80s, just as it started to prefigure the 90s, all very nostalgic for me.
With his fairytale lyrics about wizards dragons & unicorns, Marc Bolan was clearly a fan of comic books.
Neil Tennant, then editor of Marvel UK, even interviewed the singer in the 70s.
The blog has the complete exchange – courtesy of Marvel in ’76, which is the age the elfin...

I remember Neil saying somewhere (possibly an ITV Chart Show review of the music year) that SiM was one of his favourite songs or videos or something of the year.
It's a really good song, you feel very confortable listen to it. It's like being in a room watching the rainy day/night outside....
Can charts be altered by false donloads?

EMI/Parlophone decides that is time for PSB to have a new #1 in the single charts.
So they decide to download 10000 times the song.
It will cost 10000 UKP, but most of this money will come back to them being the label of the author.

It’s not trolling. Wind yer necks in. It’s a bit of fun due to a previous post stating that it’s annoying when an old thread gets bumped. No need for name calling. As it is, is restarted and old discussion. Surely a good thing during this quiet period.
Almost two years since the first instalment of Arthur Baker’s DANCE MASTERS series launched with a deep dive on the remixing exploits of a certain Mr Shep Pettibone, the second instalment sees the record producer, DJ and remixer shine the spotlight on himself!

I think this wasn´t confirmed here, but I finally put my hands on the Arthur Baker CDs and the Club Mix of Suburbia is the complete version, including the final orchestra stab, not like on the Digital release where it was removed! ;)
Stumbled across this today: it's a limited- edition print by Jeremy Deller in aid of the National Brain Appeal. UK postage only, alas. It's signed, though the site doesn't mention this fact.

And printed on an ink jet printer too. Could he not afford a decent laser one?
It's the other way around, hi-end ink jet printers are used for high quality art prints. Laser printers are not. See
I'm just defending the choice of printer, not the artwork itself :)
Well, you learn something new every day - or at least every week or so if you're a polymath like me.

Radiophoic was supposed to be a single in 2000.
US label was hoping to use it to support what they called a Shed Tour in the US.
Shed Tour never happened, apparently that is an outdoor tour with other acts. And I do not think that single ever was given out to be remixed but it was intended all...
Since Always on my mind has been crowned best cover I have been taking more interest in it's production. A song which has been covered a few times, Pet Shop Boys' version simply stands out as if it was originally written by Tennant/Lowe. From the breathtaking sound effect you first hear when the...

Regarding the Phil Harding Remix version of Always of My Mind, which I think is excellent (like it a lot, even more than the original and introspective versions...), It's curious to check the similarities with Bananarama I Heard A Rumor Phil Harding Mixes (Miami Mix and House Mix).
Did you know the chord structure of the Village People’s Go West is based on Pachelbel’s Canon, and you can sing it over the Russian National Anthem?
In the 1990s, Tennant & Lowe added a new coda, altered some lyrics, brought in a Broadway show chorus and made it about international...
I was listening to some of the KLF’s tracks (they are back on YouTube with a brand new page) and I noticed some of the voices of “Last train to Trancentral” sound like the dialogue on “We came from outer space”... so I was thinking about “Relentless” being the PSB doing the KLF. What do you think...

No. Forever (In Love) was intended to be the b-side of the cancelled 1992 Mark Stent produced Go West single.
Select magazine’s strapline claimed that the Boys had decided to 'bottle it in Xmas single race' to avoid any sense that they were reacting to the success of Abba-esque.
Few acts of the era were more perfect for the music video revolution than the self-proclaimed Nutty Boys, who, like the Dandy Highwayman and his cohorts, saw every video shoot as an opportunity for a fancy-dress adventure. And there are more parallels...

Bit weird Neil didn't like Adam and the Ants in 1981. Also, kind of ironic he was bemoaning Madness becoming boring at the end as you could certainly accuse PSB of doing the same a few times if you follow the same logic. Groups grow up, change, and in Madness's case, lose their main songwriter. Or...
It's a big part of their success. Their classics (West End Girls, Opportunities, It's a Sin, Always on Mind, Left to my own Devices and more) have a cinematic atmosphere that makes them better and I think is relevant part of their success.
Starting with West End Girls that was a flop with the...

I know Chris thinks the melody of Suburbia is a bit corny (but it's part of its charm) but they know how good the song is when they set the song as a opener of Dreamworld Tour and with almost the full version of the Full Horror Mix. Julian Mendelsohn did such a good job!
First: try to be a good music producer
Second: try to make a record with a big star full of influences from PSB

Wasn’t it Neil who half-jokingly announced that they were making a trilogy of albums with Stuart Price, rather than Stuart? I think it surprised both Chris and Stuart.
