It’s kinda depressing but also a bit cool in a way. I’ve bought the latest remasters although I already have the 2001 remasters. I already have the vinyl from when the albums originally came out. I have the cds from when they came out. I reckon I probably have the cassette version of the first 4 albums in my garage as well.

I reckon if I include discography, ultimate, pop art etc. I’ve bought the same songs coming up to 10 times. And I mean the same bloody versions of the same songs.

So I guess I’m a fool. I suspect there are others who are on this forum who have done likewise.

Perhaps there aren’t that many psb fans really. Perhaps it’s always been this small cohort buying multiple versions of every song.

And in a way that makes us all special and not fools really. Just part of a select group

Which is kinda cool

It’s a pity they didont organise a signing at a store. They did Tower Records in 2001 for the original further listenings. Would love to have had all 11 signed.

The re-issued re-issues did better this time around than in 2001 :shifty:

No they didn’t. Chart position wise they did but you only need to sell about 750 copies to get a top 75 placing. They’d have sold a lot more that 2000 copies each back in 2001 when you needed 10000+ for a top 40

I'd say they're probably about the same this time around (including the vinyl). In Q3 2001, you needed to sell an average of 2,425 copies to get to number 75. Actually sold 1,662 copies last week.

10000+ for top 40? When you have two PSB albums easily inside the top 10 around that time (Nightlife and Release) which both sold 17 - 18k. Both went down to 28 and 32 respectively in their second week. According to your stat above, both must have sold over 10k for those 2nd week positions. I know thats guesstimates but no way did they sell over 10k second week. Theyd be lucky if it was half that.

Also, Erasures Loveboat released in 2000 debuted at number 45 with sales of around 5,000.

Blimey - that was one dire album.

18 years later and I still can't wrap my head around what they were doing with Loveboat. No US release. The mastering with the distorted base, especially on track 4. The cover art and album name. Well, actually, I kind of like the uber-gloss booklet, but it's still kind of inexplicable. It's not a total wash, there were some interesting tracks like Alien. But that whole era was a big mis-fire. And Moon and Sky, a decent dance track in single form, was a muddy formless mess on the record. I don't think I've listened to the album in the last 10 years.
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

Actually [s]he arguably wasn't too far off - the average sales for #40 in 2001 were 7,631 - but that doesn't account for the Christmas bump. In Q3, when the reissues originally appeared, it was 5,125. More here.

10,000 was only a rough figure. I was using the sales figures of now compared to then. 3000 copies now gets you a top 20 (give or take), 3,000 copies then would have got you bugger all!

Ditto. Although mine’s on order at a small local record/CD shop.

Could we make a pinned topic, or just an editable list of the many differences between the 2001/2018 re-issues and the original albums? Gotta say, the "Love etc." edit and the additional "Violence" changes are kind of annoying to me. I probably won't be tracking for the previous re-issues because of it (even though I expect they've now dropped in prices significantly), but still, it would be nice to have somewhere.

Those two changes are the only ones I’ve noticed. I find them interesting because it shows the tracks have been taken apart and reassembled remastered, rather than just having ‘a loudness filter applied to the 2001 remasters’ as has been suggested on here.

An interesting question is whether these two changes are mistakes, which I find unlikely, or whether the Pets have seen the reissues as an opportunity to correct things that have bugged them. Thoughts?

In terms of audiable differences in sound quality, I have noticed quite a few sounds I hadn’t heard before throughout the range (examples being a strings line in ‘Fugitive’ and a rhythm sound in ‘Violence’...). What else have people heard differently?
Heaven is possible,
AFTER ALL.
