I agree. I kind of feel the Disco series jumped the shark with Disco 4.

Though if they released Disco 5, and it was in a similar vein to Disco 3, I wouldn't complain.

One of the songs on Elysium is called 'Ego music' and they considered calling the album Happy Sad. Neil states that "The album is about death, it begins & ends with death".

From Mixmag:
Parlophoney wrote:There's a small PSB article & pic on page 62 in the new issue of Mixmag (August 2012) where they're interviewed briefly by Above & Beyond. The full transcript of the interview will be made on http://www.mixmag.net sometime soon.

Wow thanks for posting that.

"Ego Music" is an odd name for an album track.

I was thinking that, too.

Interesting that the album is about death - so in some sense Patrick and I are vindicated, even if happily this isn't to be their last album...

Assuming the track names leaked by Soligny are genuine, we now have half the track names on Elysium:

Winner
Invisible
Ego music
Your early stuff
Breathing space
Leaving
Gunpoint has a firm voice

It's explained in the interview, it's about the current trend in pop music where songwriting seems to be about opening up your diary and writing about the "husband that's run of with someone else" - it's about Adele!

I found it interesting they considered calling the album Happy/Sad as it has always described their music. I wonder if they would have chose a one word title that means "happy and sad at the same time" or broken with tradition?
"Enjoy it while it lasts ... "

Isn't Elysium happy and sad at the same time, i.e. it's sad that you're dead but happy that you're in heaven?

I'll be ecstatic if Ego Music slags off Adele. After all, PSB always react against things, and who's bigger (in more ways than one) at the moment than Adele?

Thanks for posting that Parlophoney. It's funny that Neil says Chris wants it to be downtempo and Chris says Neil always wants to make a pop record.

bittersweet or perhaps ambivalent
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional
