Ulrich Schnauss should produce next album

#1 Post by Tom Angel » Wed 23 Jul 2014, 7:59 am

I know everyone wants another Stuart Price Album, and great as it was, i would like them to go more electronic (as opposed to dance), closer to the spirit of Fundamental and Elysium. Ulrich Schnauss would do a marvellous job (as evidenced by his amazing mix of Memory of the future), and indeed if this is anything to go by, from his band the Engineers:

Engineers release their fourth album, Always Returning, on 11th August via Kscope. Engineers, who currently comprise Liverpudlian multi-instrumentalist Mark Peters and celebrated German ambient artist/producer Ulrich Schnauss and London based drummer and composer Matthew Linley, have been creating mesmerising music with brilliantly shaded guitar textures and teasing lyrical ambiguities for over ten years across three albums

Nah, e.g. James Murphy would be an interesting choice. I hope their sound will turn somewhat different on the next album. They should explore new sounds and possibilities.

Why would James Murphy be a more interesting choice? You'll need to expand beyond the vagularities. What possibilities?

Electric was a fantastic album and showed that they should confine orchestral and choral elements to their Tennant-Lowe side projects, and focus more on proper electronics. They should make a krautrock-sounding album next, and perform it like Cluster or other '70s electronic acts, sitting one in front of the other, possibly with Neil at keys too. It'd be really refreshing!

I hate this "dreamy" sound with the same structure from the begining to the end, you know perfectly the way the song is going to finish because it's just the same way they song started, no surprises in 4 miniutes and 23 seconds of song.

I want PSB to do something more creative.

Got to say that that's a pretty 2D view you have Nickname.

Sounds good to me. Dream pop suits their age well.
I sincerely *love* Disco 2 and listen to it straight through regularly.

Schnauss is not a bad choice.. Other suggestions: Johnny Marr. Arthur Baker?

That would be good too.

And great to see Nickname having such an open mind, and seeing that it would still be PSB song structures that Ulrich Schanauss would bring his production values to, and would be quite an interesting development
