I heard from a friend that Neil was on Radio 2 this morning. Apparently he said it wouldn’t be the Super show, and there’d be old and new songs and special guests.

Can anyone find or corroborate this?
Yes, the phone interview is on the Zoe Ball show this morning, about 1hr 40mins in.

I didn't hear that there would be new songs in the show, but he did confirm that the special guest will be someone they haven't collaborated with before. I suspect, therefore, this will be Olly Alexander, and the concert might well double as an album launch....

Listening now

- So according to Neil it’s going to be ‘spectacular’
- There will be lasers and video and a few costumes
- There will be a special guest
- West End Girls will be sung - Neil still quite likes singing it apparently and ‘you can’t not do it’
- ‘There will be quite a lot of songs that have never been hits’ ... so that’s everything after Go West then
- I didn’t catch any references to the Super show so no idea on if the set design will vary from that or not

I’m not sure how effective the lasers will be in an outdoor arena ... also I wouldn’t be surprised if they will play a small homage to one of the other guests eg ... Bananarama

Of course, this is wishful thinking, but we could be looking at a repeat of 2012/2013 where they dropped an album accompanied by a single show and delayed the tour to support it in order to quickly record and drop a second album the following year.

Also....

“The gig will be broadcast live on Radio 2 and can be seen on the BBC Red Button TV channel and the Radio 2 website.

Highlights will feature on Red Button for seven days following the gig, with the performances available for 30 days on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.”

This is interesting! Can't wait to hear "no hits".
Everything under top 10? :D

Maybe in medley with a PSB-song?
I heard a rumour …
A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.

If this didn't coincide with the album launch I'd be very surprised. Does sound like it will actually be quite a neat event by all accounts. Hearing some less obvious PSB tracks could be good, although that doesn't necessarily mean they haven't been played live already does it, so a lot of it could easily be a "Super" and "Electric" tour retread within the terms that Neil states in the interview.

Could be something peculiar like Creamfields '99, hopefully without Neil getting the wrong song.

The new songs could be the ones on Agenda. Would be great to hear them live.

God awful venue. Crap sight lines. Very expensive food and drink and god awful sound. Went to Blur at Hyde park (mainly for New Order) and you’re surrounded by loads of non fans and queue over an hour for any sort of drink. I don’t care if the Boys showcase a whole brand new set, I’m not going. Let’s face it though, it’ll be the Super Rock in Rio set won’t it!
Totally this ^^^^^^^
Don’t get me wrong, glad they are doing it, but not for me I’m afraid.
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning. :|
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

They need to do a greatest hits set though. Every year, the headline act (and the supports) mainly play just the hits. That’s what people want to hear. It’s not a PSB audience it’s a festival crowd and they’ll be bored shitless if they just come on and play Fluorescent, The Dictator Decides, Inner Sanctum etc. You have to give the people what they want - the big hits. ELO headlined it and just did an hour of non stop classics! Elton and Kylie did the same!
Its taken me all of my life to find you

Pet Shop Boys will headline @BBCRadio2 #R2HydePark on Sept 15th. This will be PSB’s only UK live performance this year! Tickets are on sale now from the link below where full details of the event can also be found.

That's a lie.
They played at The Roundhouse earlier this year.
