I question the year. I did a bit of research and worked out ages back that the sticker ads were actually done in 1985 just before Neil left the magazine. I suspect this is actually 1985 but I may be wrong.

Having looked into this I am almost certain that the Stick it On ads were done for mid March 1985 Smash Hits. If the tape is from 1984 then Stick it On must have been recorded well in advance ie late the previous year. My gut feeling though is that Neil is wrong and that this tape is from 1985 even if some of the other tracks are earlier. The only way I could be wrong is if a comment Neil made in Annually about the previous year's jingle using the Rock Steady Crew is also wrong.

Stop press-According to Geowayne this was indeed recorded in 1984 for March 1985 broadcast

I love it when the Boys unearth an oldie. How many other acts on the planet can dredge up something they wrote from 36 years ago and even consider it for current release ?

There's a lyric in the original that got revived somewhat for Birthday Boy.

No one knows his name / But everyone feels the same

Looking forward to hearing the 2018 finished version.

The tape is a real curiousity.

Notice it's Chris' handwriting, the same as his signature.
4 instrumental versions of 'stick it on'.
Songs 'looking for love' and 'don't ask me'.
Who knows if they were working titles for songs we're already familiar with.
I'm not clamouring for them, but interesting to know these other songs exist.
Looking For Love could have turned into To Speak Is A Sin
Someone on Facebook said the same, but it holds no ground since To Speak Is A Sin was also demoed in 1984.

Another instrumental could have turned into One hit wonder? I recall that was an unused old track too
I believe they name all instrumental tracks and the writing is referring to the above song being instrumental.
One Hit Wonder was written in 1981, whether that matters or not.
I don't know if they ever recorded it. I personally pictured they composed the tune but didn't record it.

I agree with others, it would be lovely to get a big collection of these demos and early tracks released officially.
I'm fine with if the quality isn't top notch, but in terms of audio fidelity and the actual songs.
Would it happen though? I think it's more suited to a posthumous release.
What if they want to finish In The Club Or In The Queue for an official release, wouldn't that be dampened if they release the demo?
Either way they could release the early versions of songs we're already familiar with.
Many of them are significantly different from the final versions.
Pretty fascinating to hear as a fan, and I think to a degree they stand on their own as worthwhile songs.

Makes me think of Michael Jackson's 'Love Never Felt So Good'.
A genuinely good song unearthed 31 years later.
We'll see if New Boy is any good though. We might be saying "well I can see why it was never released earlier".
It's a pretty impressive feat regardless.

That doesn't mean anything. "Looking For Love" could have been an earlier iteration of the song in 1984 before the final title was decided. Also, I'm presuming "Do it" became "A man could get arrested" and "Sooner or later" became "Later tonight".

Isn't "Sooner or Later" most probably "Love comes quickly"?

That didn’t occur to me, you’re probably right.

And interesting about the multiple "Rent" versions...if I recall correctly...in the "Pop Art Interview CD" I think, Chris talks about how "Rent" was originally a HINRG stomper but PSB had too many "up" songs already produced for "Actually", so a solution, Andy Richards slowed "Rent" down by half and was able to help bring about a masterpiece. I would love to hear the HINRG version of "Rent".
It’s on YouTube.
Really? The only versions of Rent I can find on Youtube are the Bobby O demo and an instrumental "Sarm West" demo, both of which have a livelier feel but sound pretty much the same tempo as the released version.

I seem to remember them saying that this live version was based on it:

To speak is a sin was actually written in 1983 and would have presumably been demoed the same year

It’s an intriguing curio, that’s for sure. I wonder how many he has? Bet there are some gems on there (along with a fair amount of dirge too no doubt).
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning. :|
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

"Sooner or later" is "Later tonight" mistitled by Bobby 'O on the demo tape. "Love comes quickly" indeed have that line in it, but was written a year later, if I remember correctly.
A blues would be in B flat, pain defining wisdom,
but the soul is in the high hat, programmed in the system.
