After all sounds good, Nyet's a little strange. Sadly it reminds me of The sound of the atom splitting...

I can't see any resemblance between those two songs. But I have never heard Nyet in that way, so...

Anyway I love Nyet and After all. They have a place in my all time favorites. I don't know how is the next album going to be, but the Battleship Potemkin soundtrack is, for me, their best work since the very very best times.

And I am glad Neil said if After all and the other 3 sung songs on the soundtrack hadn't been included there they would appear in the next cd. If those songs fit there, the sound of the next cd is going to be great.

Neil reckons that both NTFT and After all would have definitely been on the next album if they weren't on Potemkin!!!!!

I have just lost faith in the new album being even remotely good completely.

If there is anything like NTFT on the new album, I'm spitting on it, stamping all over it, and throwing it in the bin.

2nd of November 1999 is the quoted original release date. Not quite 6 years then.

My mother denies everything!

And after reading your Potemkin comments in another thread I have to say I'm not as harsh as you about it. I do like parts of Chris' music and think a good producer could improve the project a lot.
My main concern is Neil's participation. Ending the film with 'For freedom' like if he were at a flagwaving Republican national convention, singing 'how come we went to war' when it was really an uprising (I'm completely anal retentive about this). All the misguided benevolence of an upper middle class man who is probably not aware how he twists the film's plot.
Well, I don't mind a single Trafalgar-Square-night, but soon afterwards Neil exclaimed Success! on their website and is now convinced of having created something on a par with Ennio Morricone. It is not a side project anymore, they have devoted so much time and energy into it, talk about taking it to other places and so on. It almost seems as if they plan to tour the world every now and then with it.
Maybe I will show more mercy next week after having seen it, but currently I'm even hoping for a semi-flop of their mini tour so that they go back to the studio and sweat blood for the next album.

A friend has told me that he has heard an upcoming interview about Potemkin being trailed on Classic FM. He thinks it is on this weekend - September 3-4. I have Googled, but to no avail.

I must say, its being marketed in the most curious manner.

I mean, how many of Classic FM's regular listeners are going to give a toss about an electronica side project by the Pet Shop Boys with a few string stabs here and there?

Maybe they are looking to market the CD to audiences that might be interested in the Dresdner Sinfoniker, Jonathan Stockhammer & Torsten Rasch influence? I mean a large proportion of the soundtrack is pretty much classical, so I'm sure a few open-minded buyers of classical cds might have a vague interest. And it is on the EMI Classics section of the label, so it might not be deemed too much of a curious tactic to market it within popular classical outputs.

Yeah, because listeners of Radio 4 and Classic FM, all love a good slab of electro under their string arrangements don't they.

I can see a complete flop on the horizon with this release.
