The reference to "It's a sin"

When PSB talk about the next album, they are always talking about "It's a sin" like a reference to understand how the album is. It's well-known "It's a sin" is one of the best ever PSB songs. Do you think PSB can get over the level of "It's a sin" with any other song form the new album or do you think they are not able to do that, nowadays?

I doubt it's a case of reaching the level of 'It's A Sin'. I think most fans believe they've written better songs since. I just hope the new album isn't just over-the-top for over-the-top's sake, because if it is we could find ourselves in 'New York City Boy' territory.

here it is in the original form:

"I just wonder how the new album is going to sound. They have mentioned on a couple of occasions thats its going to be like 'Its a Sin'. Neil is quoted as saying he wants people to "hear it and think 'that is SO Pet Shop Boys' - people havent said that for a long time".

But is trying to re-create past tracks the way forward? Only time will tell...."

It still being one of the best 5 songs of PSB. It's a song which has obtained the recognition of public (in general) and fans (in particular). In differents polls of different PSB's mailing lists, it still being between the best ever PSB songs.

With every album they've released since "Actually", I have looked for a song that would be better than "It's a Sin". So far, my search has been fruitless. I very strongly doubt that they will ever reach those heights again. But I'll settle for less. An album filled with strong pop songs would do just fine for me.

I prefer 'Can you forgive her?' and Left to my own devices to to It's a sin. Though, I agree with you in as much as it is certainly one of their best ever songs.

I *love* the Nightlife tour version. It beats the original, in my eyes.

Though It's a sin, of all Pet Shop Boys songs, does sound especially dated now.

Maybe that's why they did that odd electro version on Parkinson last year.

I love the nightlife version of It's a sin / I will survive. The Parkinson version sounds demo an dated for me (of course, this version is weaker than the original version).

Left to my own devices (Album version) and CTFH? are number two and three on my all-time PSB list, so we're very much in agreement.
