On balance, I have to say that I'm pleased the album has totally bombed.
They needed a shot in the arm to make them realise what a load of self-indulgent toss it all was, and that no-one apart from them cared about it.
Hopefully this will mean the end of touring the film around the world, and the DVD release will just get shelved, leaving them to concentrate on the new album proper. Which of course is what we all want.

I hate the last comment on that topic there: "I would probably hate Neil Tennant's voice........if he had one!!! "joncool5 wrote:Sparks fans offer their opinion on Battleship Potemkin....

Shall we protest against that quote ?

Chris:
-I´ve got a 12-inch plonker.

Really, this was just a project to try and redeem themselves in the eyes of reviewers and the art world after "Closer to heaven" turned out to be such a critical turd. Some of the songs were pretty good, but even the greatest songs in the world when attached to a shite story with no resonance to the public will still stink.

Frankly, I'm sure Neil & Chris didn't expect BP to be a bigger success than this. They obviously had high hopes for Closer To Heaven, but after seeing the box office results for that debacle, that might have cured them of any delusions they might have had of a mainly instrumental soundtrack to an old silent Russian film becoming a runaway success. Their last minute decision to release it under the moniker Tennant/Lowe just confirms this – they didn't want to dilute PSB brand any further with more arty side projects.jamie1978 wrote:On balance, I have to say that I'm pleased the album has totally bombed.

I for one hope we'll get the DVD, because I would really like to see it sync with the soundtrack. If they don't release it as such, they should have cut the album by about 15 minutes or so. I do like it a lot, but there are too many dead spots on it to work as a stand-alone work all the way through.

The deal they made with EMI in 1995 just after Alternative had the following list: "3 patchy studio albums, 1 poncy musical, 1 stopgap remix album with some new stuff to calm down distressed fans, 1 compilation with a controversial tracklisting, 1 arty soundtrack to a silent film, 1 operetta featuring transsexual midgets and 1 stomping studio album with a legendary eighties producer".
So do your math to see what's next.
