Didn't they turn down the Outstanding Contribution award either last year or the year before? I seem to remember them saying in an interview that they'd been offered the award but refused it due to there being too many "conditions" attatched to accepting it?
I agree they will probably get an award for their whole career, but not yet while they're still going strong. I think they're thought of as electropop legends but their current work doesn't attract enough attention to be Brit material.
Unfortunately I don't think any album they put out from now on will earn them a nomination let alone win an award which is disapointing by a sad reflection of society.
The Brits are nothing more than an excuse to boost post-Christmas record sales. It's designed for those people who buy half a dozen cds a year and might not have noticed that a certain James Blunt has a song called You're beautiful or that Kaiser Chiefs are fat and dull.
I pray that PSB never accept an outstanding achievement Brit because then I will have to endure Elton's laudatory speech before a show-closing medley of West End Girls, It's a sin and Go West with Neil totally out of tune and the soulless audience tapping their toes as he slaps his thigh triumphantly.
