2 pre-album singles

#1 Post by daveid »

Does anyone know why on earth the PSBs don't release two singles BEFORE the album any longer? (ie not since Nightlife)

I would've thought it was a good way of ensuring a couple of top 10 hits prior to the album (cynical I know). I assume most people prefer buying singles before the album is released for the obvious reason that all the songs are new.

Thanks.

But their only REAL album post Nightlife was "Release", which didnt warrant 1 single let alone 2 BEFORE the album!

Times have changed now. With Downloads counting towards sales, singles are spending longer in the charts. If PSB were to issue 2 singles prior to the release of the album, we wouldnt see Fundamental released until later in the year.

Releases and the count of the singles, which had to be released (before an entire album comes out) always depends on the record companies! PSB may only tell them the tracks, they want to be released...

Nobody (well very few) release two singles before the album anymore. Singles don't really make a profit - sometimes they're purely an expense for the record company. What they want is to sell albums, so no point in having hits out with no album for people to buy. That's why most albums by name acts are released just one or two weeks after the first single. No-name acts often release a few singles before the album to build a name for themselves before the album comes out.

Yeah, even Madonna only released one single from Confessions On A Dancefloor before release.
Prick up your ears.
