What is the Trevor Horn sound?

#1 Post by Deepbass »

What makes a song sound like a Trevor Horn production. The Fundamental CD is produced by him. Who writes the songs, who makes these sounds? Would the album sound different if someone else would have produced it. If Neil and Chris write their songs (that´s what I hope) what exactly is Trevor doing when producing. I´m a little confused.

He makes it into an "epic" track i guess... the flurry of beats reminds me of Left to my own devices...

Chris and Neil write the melody and the lyrics.

Trevor Horn, in effect, orchestrates the album, adding effects and sound where he sees fit.

its the same with a composer of musicals. Stephen Sondheim writes the lyrics and the melody. An orchestrator puts together the instruments.

Of course its usually done with the guidance of the composers who guide the orchestrator/producer along the way.

:D

Something like Introspective...
Interviewer:
-What would you tell someone about yourself if you wanted to impress them?

Chris:
-I´ve got a 12-inch plonker.

ok, I see. So maybe Chris has some good chords in his mind but the synthesizers and sounds are chosen by Trevor, right? I had always the picture in my mind that Chris tweaking the synths and comes up with all thes cool sounds and pads, but this seems wrong :?
