It's funny how the Irish in general don't 'get' PSB yet pride themselves on being a literate bunch. I'd suggest that PSB were too English if it weren't for the Irish Oscar Wilde industry.

I don't agree. It's not that the Irish 'don't get' PSB. When they were in their 'imperial' phase they had more number ones over here than they did in Blighty (What have I was no.1 here). I think the Irish lost interest in them.
I hope you're not trying to suggest that the Irish are thick.
And it's an insult too to suggest that the PSB are too English for Irish tastes. I suppose the Beatles are too English for us, Duran Duran, Elton John, Rolling Stones, Artic Monkeys... would you like me to go on?

A group like Artic Monkeys are more regional than anything. I don't consider them quintessentially English like PSB. Both Elton and the Rolling Stones wear their American influences heavily on their sleeve so are bound to be popular in a 'rawk' environment like Ireland. Everybody* likes the Beatles and plenty of Irish girls fancied John Taylor too.

Oh, some of us do and some of us are.
Drico.
PS The notion of the PSBs being somehow "too English" for Paddy Potatohead isn't far off the mark at all. I have long suspected the quintessential Englishness of the PSBs to be a stick with which to beat the band in Ireland. Throw in the gay thing - and let's face it, there are no homosexuals in Ireland - and you pretty much have a pariah act.
