On reflection, after 100 or so listens... a couple of similarities spring to mind...

elements of the sung chorus rhythm remind me of One Thing Leads to Another... (bit that goes... 'Im afraid its too late' sounds like 'Your Doctor says its too late'

bits remind me of It Doesn't Often Snow at Xmas...you can sing the Bing Crosby, Bing Crosby piece over parts of this track

as already mentioned... sounds a bit like Lets all Chant by Pat and Mick (both huge fans BTW)

Its a good track... not sure it is single material though... its too much PSB by numbers to be attractive to new listeners

Prefer Lunar Park I think... although I can scarcely remember it now the radio blog has gone... how did it go again ?? :D

I was referring to the song.. not the radio blog... thought I'd clarify that a little !

i feel bad saying this, but the more i hear the song the less i like it (i was afraid of this)...and i found out what my problem is: the song sounds like its PSB trying to hard to sound like PSB.

(if anyone has heard DM's "lillian" its the same type of problem except lililan grew on me after many listens...even with the horrible verses)

this is what happens when my initial (i.e. very first listen of the song) reaction isn't an "oh man this is awesome" reaction.

or maybe i'm in the wrong mood for the song....

I was a little underwhelmed on first listen - too PSB by numbers. But then I realized I'd been listening to it on repeat over and over. It's catchy as hell. Far more so than any of their singles for the past decade in my opinion.

The lyrics on this and I'm with stupid really make me hopeful for the album. Lyrics are one of the things that always made PSB special and in my opinion they seemed to lose their ability to marry hooks and lyrics around 1996. This reached its nadir on Nightlife where only two songs (Happiness and Drunk) seemed to have the literate quality PSB were known for. Things perked up slightly with Release but now it appears that Fundamental is a return to form.

Will Integral work as a single? That's the question. I would love some epic remixes - especially an expanded PSB 12" - but in my opinion this is a song that's going to need the video to sell it to the masses. Put the PSB in 1984 imagery and push everything over the top - imagine Suede's We Are the Pigs video - and they might be on to something. It's very V For Vendetta, isn't it?

But just the 7" and an average video isn't going to do it. It's catchy but too "obvious" for them these days. They'd need to really play up the political angle and get some buzz going.

I have some mp3 downloaded of the new album this evening.

The instrumental version of the Sodom and Gomarrah show sounds fabulous. didn;t get the lyrics one.

Downloaded also INTEGRAL but this one needs some more playing to me. It's toooooo much PSB in my first opinion and therefore a liitle but disappointed, mostly because this should be the best record based upon reviews.
I expected more the sound of Left to my own devices and the frankie style...

Let's play it a lot first.

For me, Integral is fantastic. It's one of those songs where you're just waiting, waiting for that chorus to kick in and when it does a tingle runs down your spine and you want to leap up and shout out. The lyric is great, the structure of the song is great, and when it's over, you're just desparate to hear it all again.

I question what some people want from an "up" PSB record if it isn't this. I don't think it sounds like PSB by numbers. What other record have PSB made that had such a relentless, overwhelming driving passion to it? It's A Sin and . . . . . ? And INTEGRAL ISN'T CAMP. It's the first non-camp stomper PSB have made for a long, long time. It's great to hear "Nasty Neil" back too; his voice has edge and a hint of menace in this record that hasn't really been there since the 80s.

The Boys are in their 50s for crying out loud and are producing music as fresh and awesome as this. Respect due.

this is odd. my feelings about a song don't usually fluctuate like this (especially with PSB!) but right now..when i hear integral i love it...and then at other times i don't want to hear it.

petshopboys: well...i guess in the long run this song is going to grow on me whether i like it or not!

Major disappointed, it sounds like the early 1990's.

Neil seems to find corporate life so very very fascinating as a subject-
Clearly because he's never had to actually work there.

BLAAAhhh. Intensely dull, dated sounding.

I"VE GOT TO LOVE, ironically, how you all have disregarded forum rules here, and people are asking how and why you know what you do. Way to go.

Seriously.

Not to offend but I think a few people are missing the point with this song. I don't think it was really made for hardcore PSB fans but more to get some kind of chart success assuming this is going to be a single. It's probably the PSB's most accessible song since Go West.
Yes it's a bit cheap and a bit tacky and not incredibly original, tho' it has its moments, but the same could be said for Hung Up and look what that did for Madonna.
I think we have to cut N&C a bit of artistic slack here and understand that they have to appease their record company with some kind of chart success.
Having said all that I still love the song tho' I suspect it'll be the "West End Girls" of Fundamental that I end up skipping having gotten sick of it from radio and TV airplay.
