Pet Shop Boys - 'I'm With Stupid' (Parlophone)
Whoop! Bring out the big pointy party hats! Or whatever they're wearing this season. After a brace of albums that cast them as being ludicrously camp and wilfully rockist respectively, the announcement that the dynamic duo were set to re-emerge with lots of songs that actually sounded straightforwardly like the Pet Shop Boys promised much, and this opening salvo doesn't disappoint. 'I'm With Stupid', from the excellent title downwards, crackles hackle-unshacklingly with arch eccentricity and their signature electro ecstasy, while 'The Resurrectionist' is a magnificent Moroderian clubthumping wallop of a B-side. Perhaps not the sort of radical departure that's served their forbearers Sparks so well this year, but no less vital for all that.
