PSB on Radio One????!!!! - 14 May '06
Although BBC Radio One doesn't play Pet Shop Boys' new single (this week's highest chart entry) they are still happy to interview Neil and Chris who will be live on the Colin and Edith Show this coming Friday (May 19th) between 1 and 3 pm.

I can see why they have to cater to a certain audience but PSB are an anomaly. As the Word review of Fundamental intimates, they still make pop songs which are of the moment which is more than can be said for many of the artists on the Radio 1 playlist.
Ultimately it boils down to demographics and why Capital won't play them anymore either. They're bracketed with Status Quo simply because they've been around for a couple of decades.
Of course there's the *pop* thing too. Pop stars aren't meant to chart consistently for two decades whereas Primal Scream can release derivative retro single after derivative retro single yet still get on the A-List because they wear leather trousers and duet with Kate Moss.
So Radio 1 is the place to hear Jack Johnson's paean to a cartoon monkey rather than an electro-tinged critique of the war in Iraq.

Does this mean 'I'm with stupid' wil get a 2nd play on radio 1 this week!!!
I hope Radio 1 know what they're doing. No doubt they will lose droves of listeners when PSB are on! That poor dumb audience of theirs' that can only respond to chavved up remixes of 90s tv shows and get all insulted and in a panic when artists born before 1971 get played.
"No doubt they will lose droves of listeners when PSB are on!"
Oh, actually, they've managed to do that without playing PSB!
