This is what I could transcript:
Somewhere out in the heart of Suburbia
Flinching from the words that could almost murder her
Listen
It's the final day
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
She's wearing platin jeans
Like a walkman on the road
Pinching on West Road
Her personal stereo playing
Lady, lady, lay
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
In the heart she's not even ?
From the start ?
"I had instincts
Lead a different way"
In the pocket by a heart
This dark ? boy
The picture of a girl with the wrong boy
She went missing
The final day
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say (I don't care what they say)
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say (I don't care what they say)
Girls don't cry
Somewhere out in the heart of Suburbia
Flinching from the words that could almost murder her
Listen
It's the final day
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry

Here's the best I could do.
Girls Don't Cry (Tennant/Lowe)
Somewhere out in the heart of Suburbia
Flinching from the words that could almost murder her
Listen
It's the final day
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
She's wearing plaid and jeans
Like a workman on the road
Hitching out West with her personal stereo playing
Lay Lady Lay
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
In her heart she's not even a renegade
From the start she knew why she would not be saved
All her instincts
Lead a different way
In the pocket by her heart
Is a darkened polaroid
The picture of a girl with her arm around a boy who went missing
The final day
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say (I don't care what they say)
Girls don't cry
Whatever boys say (I don't care what they say)
Girls don't cry
Columbine massacre anyone?
Drico.

Just listening to it now and I think you've pretty much nailed the lyrics Drico. I'm not sure I can quite decipher what the songs about though.
Its quite a grower though, even if its not Neil's finest vocal performance. Its a lovely little track and quite an atmospheric and strangely affecting song imo.

it was inspired by the 1999 film ''Boys don't cry'', which told the true story of the Nebraska teenager Brandon Teena, who was born a girl Teena Brandon but lived as a boy, which led to her being brutally raped and murdered in 1992.Frequency wrote:I'm not sure I can quite decipher what the songs about though.
Hillary Swank played Brandon Teena. I was shocked when I found out about this.
I'd never guess that she could play a boy and she really looked like one in that movie.

thank you for explanation; these lyrics are really wonderful - they make more sense if you saw the filmboyjohn wrote:It's a photograph taken by a polaroid camera (very popular in the 50's, 60's and 70's)...they took photographs that developed in a minute or so right before your eyes!
indeed, it's my favourite track from new Fundamental-era for nowIntegralist wrote:Gorgeous track!
if ''Drunk'' worked as a single, this could work too - even better
