Pet Shop Boys call it a day...

#1 Post by bookshopboy »

Taken from Teletext this morning....
Pet Shop Boys admit they briefly thought about splitting up.

Speaking in Channel 4 documentary "PSB: A Life in Pop", to be shown on May 24, Neil Tennant said, 'I once asked Chris: "Shall we call it a day?" Chris just didn't reply, and it was never mentioned again.'

Chris Lowe said: 'I trained as an architect, but it'd be embarassing if I did it now. I'm unemployable.'
They also give Fundamental 8/10.

I wonder if that was about the circumstances leading up to "Yesterday, When I Was Mad"?

The last time I heard such rumours was in 1994. Back then, the story was that Chris wanted to quit. But fortunately this didn't happen. Recently Neil said that PSB won't stop yet.

Fundamental is however their last album under the current record deal with EMI/Parlophone. So I wonder if they will get a new contract for more albums, or that they need to look for an other label.

Talking of quitting, anyone know what the deal with EMI/Parly ? Does Fundamental complete their current deal?

I could be wrong but I think the quote relates to just a few years ago - between Nightlife and Release. I'm sure I read an interview somewhere in which Neil said PSB were forced to make compromises or something (possibly a low budget for recording Release) and this led to him briefly becoming disillusioned and wondering if it was worth carrying on.

Whatever, I'm glad between the two of them they saw sense. :D
Passion, love, sex, money, violence, religion, injustice and death. More on that story later.

I believe Neil said that Fundamental finishes their contract with EMI, but that they were going to sign another contract with EMI for more albums.

To call it a day means to stop, to finish.

I have read that somewhere. So it´s always Neil who wants to stop the whole thing.
Interviewer:
-What would you tell someone about yourself if you wanted to impress them?

Chris:
-I´ve got a 12-inch plonker.
