Do you think they'll go live again like the Release tour with couple of guitarists and a percussionist ? I personally would like to see Chris playing live again but i'm afraid with Fundamental being more electropop, they might do another "Nightlife" ?

Neil kind of mentioned there that the show will be kind of theatrical, at least for Creamfields and Santander. I don't know Spanish, so I am relying on a translation tool for this. 'We wanted to reflect an oppressive atmosphere'

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have been making music together for 20 years while giving their point of view about our society all the way. 'Fundamental' is their ninth studio record where they criticize "the climate of oppression in which we all live since 11-S". Pet Shop Boys presented it in Spain. To the point.

"They are tired", the company warns us during the audition of the record before chatting with the authors. The British couple observe openly each and every journalist. They are all dressed up by Hedi Slimane and have a tight promotional agenda. Despite the weariness, they insist on their speech. "It’s our most political record. It reflects people’s fear and the dismal environment that the governments impel. We wanted to reflect an oppressive atmosphere, without forgetting satire and sense of humour", assures Neil Tennant.

In 'I'm with stupid', the new record’s first single, they are ironic about the relationship between Tony Blair and George Bush. "It’s a love song about how the rest of the world can’t understand why you are with somebody. It is also a satire on the relationship from Blair's point of view", confesses Chris Lowe.

The 7-J attacks in London caught them in the middle of the recording sessions. "What happened has affected the British society in a way that we are now less free. There have been brutal measurements restricting freedom as a way of stopping this kind of terrorism, these brutal acts. But ¿Who can prevent someone from entering this room now with a gun and killing everyone?” Questions Tennant with a wry smile and adds, "anyway, terrorism is a part of modern life, it is now part of living in a city such as London."

Enthusiasm is fundamental.

On this record they are back with Trevor Horn, a producer they both praise. They worked with him in the 80s and he has achieved "the epic sound, it wasn’t easy to find somebody". Through another producer, Stuart Price, they came to Madonna. "The remix of 'Sorry' was our idea. We knew Stuart and we proposed doing it to him. We wanted to contribute something new to this song".

They will present 'Fundamentally' in a large tour and they’re coming to Spain. Santander and Almeria will be their destinations, on the 'Summer festival' and 'Creamfields' festivals, respectively. They will offer the fans "new songs and songs from the past, all kinds of songs and a very theatrical show. It’s going to be quite innovative and spectacular,” says an excited Neil.

After two decades writing songs, they claim to have the same enthusiasm. "We’ve never lost it. We are prolific composers. We are always writing and we like trying new things, innovate. Things are not the same as they were 20 years ago, especially when it comes to communicating your work to the others, but we have the same enthusiasm". And ¿What is the most fundamental thing in their lives? "Food. And the seven deadly sins."


I'm hoping to see them at Creamfields in Almeria. I Can't wait!!!!

Just for information: Performance is the only show where Chris didn't play live (apart from So Hard, Jealousy and Always on my mind, where he played live).
