Amazon: they're crap

#1 Post by Janet Street-Porter »

So I ordered Fundamentalism from Amazon six weeks ago when it was £8.99 but they still haven't sent it and now the delivery estimate is June 5th!

Round of applause.

Piss-up, brewery, etc.

Their delivery estimates are often wide off the mark, so I wouldn't trust them. Anyway, I have noticed that Amazon is great for ordering books but not for records. With books I have never any trouble getting what I want in the time they have promised to send the stuff to me.

Really? I ordered it the very next day.

I'm not hugely bothered in the grand scheme of things (I've got the mp3s) but find it hard to understand how they are waiting on something which just came out and which I ordered six weeks ago!

I usually use play.com since they don't have shipping charges. Apparently they sent Fundamentalism to me last friday, but I still haven't received it. :x

Just an update....i just went out to get my mail from yesterday....and it's been delivered already.

So, 4 days from the UK to my mailbox in california...pretty non-crappy as far as I can tell!

I've had problems with most of the stuff I've ordered off Amazon that hasn't been in stock, they seem to deliberately give out wildly optimistic expected despatch/in stock dates. I cancelled my order for Fundamentalism with them last week as I just knew something would go wrong, took 5 days to come from Japan 8)
Still waiting to hear the Adam Freeland, Manhattan Clique and Axwell mixes of Integral.

well that just goes to prove how crap their service to JSP has been, it's like they randomly pull out orders to fulfill

How odd, I preordered for 8.99, the CD was dispatched on Saturday (20.05) and I received it on Monday morning... sorry JSP!!!
I went fishing with Salvador Dali; he used a dotted line.

Never had a problem with Amazon. If I really want an album on the day of release though, I will get it from a shop.
Perhaps Amazon don't have enough stock of the 2 disc edition?

True. I just find it incredible how they can fail to send an order out on time when they've had six weeks notice! It's hardly rocket science to check their stock levels.

I had pre-ordered mine and got it on Tuesday (I'm 200 miles North of London so it takes a bit more time, you know).

But I did make the mistake of ordering the I'm with stupid CDs and the Fundamental CDs together and not taking care to specify I wanted them sent as they became available, which they pointed out to me when I contacted them after I'm with stupid had not arrived.

Judging from this forum though, one could be forgiven for thinking that half the correspondents seemed to have demo copies months ahead of release. Are we all friends and relatives of people in the business or in the music press?

I have often had trouble with Amazon failing to despatch pre-orders. I think my Fundamentalism CD is the first item to be despatched to me on time in a very long time. I ordered mine on 27 April, by the way - a couple of weeks after you, Janet.

Complain heartily to Amazon - they'll probably give you a voucher for a couple of quid. Useless feckers.

I don't know how they managed it but the delivery from England to Turkey took only AMAZING TWO DAYS....they dispatched it on Monday morning and I received it on Wednesday prenoon....it normaly takes FIVE DAYS...
The CELL by Stephen King instantly hit number 1 in New York Times Bookseller Lists selling well over 200 thousand copies in three weeks. This affirms my opinion: People really need an occassional good horror read...
