Why? It's a very sad song - I imagine a loveless Charles Foster Kane figure couched in the loneliness of his Xanadu.

I had a girlfriend who went out with another guy. The next time were together I showed here this cool song called One & One Make Five by the Pet Shop Boys. We got a little way though the song and her eyes started to swell up. Now that was a sweet breakup song! It would have been even better if I really cared if we stayed together because the song would have fit more.

BTW she married the other guy about 8 months later

pure PSB

I split up with this girl in early 2003 and for me 'Between two islands' totally summed up our relationship. The lyrics were just so apt for what i was going through at the time. I loved the bit when it goes "Catching your eye/ I wonder what you saw..."

Whenever i hear it even now it takes me right back to that time.

Such a very sad and beautiful song, and so underrated
I'm always waiting...

Love is a catastrophie.
Interviewer:
-What would you tell someone about yourself if you wanted to impress them?

Chris:
-I´ve got a 12-inch plonker.

A few years ago when I was a naive teen getting treated like sh*t by my then boyfriend, I used to rant about him to Neil on the questions page at the official site. He'd always answer me, too. "I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Anymore" was what Neil suggested I play to him before dumping his ass!

A side note: I used to play the line "You hated me too, but not as much as I hated you" from Yesterday, when I was mad over and over just to piss of this former boyfriend of mine.

Sad, I know, but it was my first relationship and I didn't know how to deal with it all.

Luckily, now you've moved on to a guy who is old enough to remember who the PSB are

For the aftermath, perhaps Numb. There after a 'PSB' track: No regrets.
