If a few people phone the BBC and ask to see that clip again saying how great it was, and a few people here (cleverly) seed the youtube link into other online forums (without a massive rant about how great the pet shop boys are) you could get Numb released and to Number 1.

It's actually very easy to get something like this to gather viral momentum.

And the PSB now already have their video to go with the song.

Look what happened with "Are you ready for Love" and Elton John. That was used on a Sky sports promo then Norman Cook picked it up.

So get posting and forwarding people. But the name of the game is subtlety! Don't join forums just to post (so your post count is 1) and don't wax lyrical about the PSB.

Listening back to Numb for the first time since yesterday on telly. This song has really grown on me in the last couple of weeks, but I have to say, it's bringing back painful football memories stright away, and I suspect it will now forever more be the song that takes me back to our exit of the 2006 World Cup.

For a nation of a population less than London i think qualification to the World Cup in 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1998, in other words six out nine is not too bad.

For the record England with Ten times the population have qualified.. six out of nine as well..

They do have a god record in qualifying but the word 'qualifying is key here. Kenny, would you care to share with us how many games Scotland have won at the World Cup?

Scotland had some amazing players in the 70's and 80's though. Nearly every English club had a good solid Scottish player. Whats happened?

Personally i think we do still produce good players, but i think the standards in the Premiership have increased in quite a big way, meaning that you now really need to be a top player to play there.

I didn't really like Numb. I didnt think it sounded sincere and i just didnt really relate to it.

However, when they played at the end of yesterday's match it sent a shiver down my spine and i got tears in my eyes. It worked SO well for the moment. It was also great that the BBC chose a PSB song- i didnt think they would in a million years. In fact i was chatting with a friend only last week about what the "England exit World Cup" song would be on the BBC and we thought Fix You by Coldplay.

Needless to say, whilst the song brings back painful memories of yesterday, i now think Numb is a really good track.

What?

Tell me this, despite the team not playing well and injuries and bad selections etc. do you not think it is amazing how loyal and supportive English fans are of their team despite everything?
What should we have done, supported Brazil as soon as we played badly like some countries supporters do? When I was in France up until last week there was little or no support for the French team and sometimes you would not even know there was a world cup on, they beat Spain and suddenly now everybody is on the streets and they beleive they are the best team in the world!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow that is loyalty!!! Great fans!!!

We went it to this tournament with an excellent squad, up with the best and of course everybody thinks and hopes we would have won the world cup. Nothing wrong with that and I do not understand your problem. Should we have entered the tournament thinking we were shite or like the French not thinking anything until we got to play Portugal?

I am and will always be proud to be English and follow my team win lose or draw like all England fans and obviosly people like you either do not understand this, resent this or envy this. I remember in the late 80's when Everton and Liverpool were plagued with Scottish internationals. I don't see teams like that in he Premiership these days.

I saw a documentary by Alan Hansen where he visited his old football playing fields only to find them empty where as they were full when he was growing up. It is like that all over Britain now and is the same where I grow up. Also teams buy players from abroad now which means less British and Irish players of all nationalities have opportunities to make lots of money. It is a shame actually and I am all for limiting the number of foreign players but to something like 7 or 8 per team. Could work but will probably never happen due to employment laws etc. Would be good for football in general i think and would obviously bring more home grown players.

FFS! I wouldn't go THAT far! It was an interesting moment, but please, spare us the mock hysterics, it's the type of predictable thing the BBC have always done. It's still cringeworthy, even if it was a nice surprise.

I can't see PSB really rush releasing a single out in a monthy or so, and I certainly can't see, perish the thought, the BBC montage being used as a video. Get a grip folks!

I still can't see Numb being released as a single unless thousands of people contact the BBC showing interest after hearing it on TV.
