Is the casual fan base bigger than we might give credit?

Could a factor in Minimal's disappointing (but not entirely bad) chart position be that the PSB hardcore fanbase isn't as big as we think it is, and the casual fan who potentially consumes PSB material based on buzz, press, etc., is bigger than we might think? It probably was, for example, the casual fan base that bought Fundamental in the US, not the hardcore base, who had bought it already and only thr most rabid fans bought a second copy? This might account for the chart success of Drunk or I get along, on album promo campaigns that seem to have been unlikely to spawn another hit. Minimal just didn't attract the more casual listener (does the general public care about an intelligent song about minimalism whose irnoy is in its maximalistic production?); I am not sure Intrgral would either.

Just thinking out loud with driving around with Fundamental in my car in New jersey...

hey jersey I might be there august 7th to try and meet kevin smith the director in redbank.
he's doing a signing there as promotion for his film clerks 2.I'm staying with my brother and his wife in peekskill ny around then so I figured why not.

anyways I bought 2 copies of it here in ny even though I heard it and bought a copy online way earlier. my gut feeling is the PSB really are generally benefiting more from thier hardcore fanbase than casual buyers at this point.

I think so too. The DVD sales contributed nearly 1/3rd of the week 1 Minimal sales... and who other than a hard-core fan wants a stupid format like a DVD single? Seriously.

This would suggest hard-core fans buying all 3 formats, and no one else is buying anything at all. Or maybe the fairweather fans went to Woolworths and couldn't be bothered trying anywhere else. Who knows.
