Liza Minnelli's Results CD?

I have the original version from when it came out in 1989. It's definitely in my Top 10 of all time. Can anyone tell me if the new version has been remastered coz I'd definitely upgrade if it was?

Yes - it's beautifully remastered. It sounds crisper and more lush than ever. And they've upped the general volume on it. I always had to turn my original 1989 CD up so loud - and on my iPod you could barely hear it!

I agree. 'If there was love' is 2nd only to 'Being Boring' in my opinion- Liza reciting Sonnet 94 during the extended coda, while Coutney Pine burbles away and JJ Belle wah wahs in the background is sublime

Yes. And the album has five Tennant/Lowe originals, so it's a must buy. The rest consists of three covers and two orchestral versions of songs previously recorded by PSB (Rent and Tonight Is Forever)[/quote]

I have a few songs from it, such as Rent, Tonight Is Forever, Losing My Mind, So Sorry I Said and Don't Drop Bombs. That's all the ones that PSB wrote then I guess?

They didn't write Losing my mind. They wrote these:

I want you now
If there was love
So sorry, I said
Don't drop bombs
Rent
Tonight is forever
I can't say good night

They produced the three covers, which blend seamlessly with the rest of the album. Those first three tracks are among the best songs PSB ever wrote and Liza's vocals are amazing.

Exactly. By "Tennant/Lowe originals" I meant songs that were written specially for Liza and haven't been recorded by PSB themselves, neither before or after Results came out. Rent and Tonight Is Forever were of course already released by PSB – in very different versions, though.

Just re-bought it from 101. Thanks for the info. I'm really looking forward to hearing it remastered, particularly 'If There Was Love'. I always thought the production on this track was amazing anyway

Stephen Sondheim wrote 'Losing My Mind' for the musical 'Follies'.(Introspective Further listening actually credits neil and chris for writing it!) 'So Sorry I Said' was influenced by Sondheim's style, with Neil keen to try to produce a song using minor chords and lots of melancholy.

I think he succeeds brillantly, and it's one of their finest songs, as is 'Losing My Mind' on of Sondheim's best.

You should also listen to 'Losing My Mind' in its original form - Julia McKenzie's version from the London production is a good start.

Don't Drop Bombs IS AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. One of the worst things they've done.

I liked 'Don't Drop Bombs' at the time. It reached No.46 in charts (I think).
Quite a Policitally correct song at the moment. It reminds me of a good time i had in Redditch once!

It's a definite buy and for the re-issue a definate re-buy for me. My copy is out of a jukebox with only a thin single paper sleeve as a cover so I've wanted to get this again for a long time, just never got round to it.

The 12" Remix of Don't Drop Bombs is fantastic. I remember N&C hired an American remixer to give the remix a US feel, and all he did basically was stick a four-to-the-floor Hi-NRG dance beat on it which ended up making it sound even more European!

I'm showing my age now but I remember that remix causing serious dancefloor damage at Bennets Nighclub in Glasgow. Gays were jumping around crazy on the dancefloor and crowding the DJ (Craig someone, known as the Psychic DJ) to find out who it was. Happy days....
