What gives ? I just tried going to the play it agin option @ the BBC site & nothing happens. All I get is a window saying the link is out of date orsomething.
I guess I'll try again later but this is very disappointing ...

Robbie actually fluffed the lyrics of "Jealousy" twice : "More than I could DARE to let you go" (should be BEAR) and "You know I COULD HAVE tried to see your point of view" (should be YOU KNOW YOU COULD. I'VE TRIED...)

I think we are realise that! artistic licence was granted by the grammar police for that one.

He could rewrite the song for Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds.........

^ yes. "you and SHE and I" should be/was the subject of this sentence. neil substituted the "her" for lyrical sense, I guess. it sounds a bit better as a lyrical choice. he's too good a writer not to have done it on purpose, methinks.

btw, for all those who missed it, "listen again" is working now.

in fact, given the paratactic structure of the lyric, the pronouns in question could be subject or object -

'Dreaming of the Queen, visiting for tea... you and her and me (i.e. these are the people about whom Neil is dreaming, i.e. object)

or

'Dreaming... you and she and I' (i.e. these three are the subjects of the dream)

Neil obviously noticed that the loose structure of the sentence allowed either object and subject, and therefore mixed and matched.

Wasn't enthralled with the prospect, but after listening online, the concert is rather fab. A result, as Liza once said.

You (close, Chris?) and her (far, the old queen) and I (close, myself) and... something special, lady Di.That is not a her or a you, that is lady Di.

Steve Lipson is actually a very successful producer in his own right now. He produced all of Annie Lennox's solo material, Simple Minds, and many more. Most recently he produced most of Will Young's last album.

but when you take the complete sentence/stanza into account, then

"dreaming of the queen... visiting for tea" -- here, the verbs are 'dreaming' and 'visiting', and the 'queen' is the object.

"you and her and I... and lady Di" -- are the subject(s) doing the dreaming and the visiting of the object.

it FEELS like a slightly complex structure because the object being taken precedes the subject. but, in actuality, it's pretty simple. nevertheless, neil knew what he was doing.. writing a song. and some measure of poetic license was had.

I am still slightly confused by the Lady Di reference. was she already with the queen? are "you and her and I" visiting Lady Di AND the Queen? in that case, Lady Di should be the object. ah well, it's a frickin' song and an amazing one at that so I'll stop the nitpicking!
